Tablelands and Ingham region: Join us at these free workshops to learn how you can benefit from 'circular economies' - cutting costs and reducing waste (i.e. mill by-products, crop residues, nutrients, organics, tyres, drums and batteries) and keeping your businesses competitive... while also helping to make the region’s land and waterways healthier.

The ‘Herbert Circular Futures series’ is a hands-on program for small-to-medium businesses across the industries in the Upper and Lower Herbert catchment. It's for landholders, shop owners, suppliers... and also extension officers, policy makers, community leaders...

You’ll learn what circular economy and nature regeneration mean for your bottom line, what customers, supply chains and investors are starting to expect, and how to identify practical efficiency, cost-saving and revenue opportunities in your own operations.

The series combines expert-led masterclasses with practical tools. You don’t need any previous sustainability or circular economy knowledge to be part of this.

More than 2,500 people spent their Saturday at the TYTO Parklands 🌿 enjoying a full day of community connection 🤝, learning 📚 and celebration 🎉, as Tasman Turtle’s Picnic Day 🐢🧺 rolled into the evening with the Bounce Back Bash 🎶✨.

Families came together during the day 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 for the much-loved picnic event, where children explored hands-on activities 🎨🔍, neighbours caught up on the grass 🏞️ and the simple message of caring for the local environment 🌱💚 was shared in a fun, relaxed setting 😊.

As daylight faded 🌅, the parklands stayed buzzing ⚡.

Update #2 01 June 2026 at 7.31AM

Council advises Lower Herbert residents that repairs to the floating cover at the Halifax Water Treatment Plant will commence on Monday 1 June 2026.

Permanent water-saving measures have been in place across the Lower Herbert area since December 2025 following a tank being taken offline due to a leak. This has reduced the available supply buffer while protecting water quality during the repair process.

These measures will remain in place until further notice, as the covered storage continues to be temporarily out of service while repairs are undertaken.

Council would like to reassure residents that the current drinking water supply remains safe to use, with the affected storage not in operation during repairs.

Residents are encouraged to continue limiting non-essential outdoor water use to help reduce demand on the system and minimise impacts while the supply buffer remains constrained.

Following completion of the repairs, standard checks will be undertaken to ensure the storage can be safely returned to service within the supply system.

Council appreciates the community’s cooperation and understanding during this period.

Further updates will be shared once new information comes to hand. Residents are encouraged to sign up to track their water use, receive updates, and help manage consumption at home via Council’s Hinchinbrook H20 portal: https://h2o.hinchinbrook.qld.gov.au/

For more information email [email protected] or call Council’s customer service centre on (07) 4776 4600.

Council advises Lower Herbert residents to implement water-saving measures while we work to resolve technical issues affecting the Halifax water tank.

The tank has been taken offline due to a leak, reducing the available supply buffer.

This measure is necessary to protect water quality while repairs are undertaken.

Contractors have been engaged to inspect the tank next week; however, repairs may take some time to complete.

Council has implemented alternative measures to maintain water supply, and community water conservation will help minimise the impact on the system during this period.

Residents are encouraged to limit non-essential outdoor water use.

Council apologises for any inconvenience and appreciates the community’s understanding and cooperation.

Updates will be provided as new information becomes available.

For more information email [email protected] or call Council’s customer service centre on (07) 4776 4600.

31/05/2026

Council advises of a planned water outage in Herbert Street (between Haig Street and Gardiner Street) on:

Thursday 4 June 2026 from 9:00am to 5:00pm (weather permitting).

The works are required to replace an existing water main located beneath new access infrastructure for a facility currently under construction in the area, connecting to the existing network.

Following restoration of supply, some businesses may experience temporary discolouration of water or fluctuations in water pressure.

If this occurs, please run taps for up to five minutes, or until the water runs clear.

Where possible, consider repurposing flushed water for gardening or lawn irrigation.

Council thanks the community for its understanding.

For further information or to raise any concerns, please contact Council on (07) 4776 4660.
