Dover Medical Centre will be closing its doors at 12:30pm on Friday 19th June.

Our doctors will be attending training in the afternoon, so the clinic will be closed to visitors from 12:30pm onwards.

🚧 The following works are scheduled for the week commencing 15 June 2026.

Please note: this week's schedule may be delayed due to having to address any urgent safety and road hazards that could develop after last week's heavy rain.

🚜 Roads and Footpaths

➡️ Unsealed roads grading, drains cleaning: Old Road, Franklin. Cawthorns Road, Wattle Grove. Morrisons Road, Huonville. Allens Road, Grove. Martins Road, Petcheys Bay. New Road, Franklin.
➡️ Potholing: Pelverata, Cygnet Coast.
➡️ Unsealed roads drain works: New Road, Franklin. Wylies Road, Olbrichs Road, Cygnet.
➡️ Slip repair (unsealed section); North Huon Road, Ranelagh.
➡️ Roadside slashing: Port Huon area.
➡️ Footpath cleaning, car park cleaning: Huonville, Cygnet.
➡️ Stormwater pit cleaning: various areas as required

🌳 Parks and Reserves

➡️ Mowing: Cygnet Oval, Huonville Oval, Franklin parks and gardens, Cygnet parks and gardens, soft fall playgrounds.
➡️ W**d spraying: all areas (weather dependent)
➡️ Inspections: Playgrounds and ovals
➡️ Tree work and street furniture maintenance: as required

🗑 Public rubbish bin collection: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

🔑 FOUND KEYS – Can you help find their owners? 🔑

We currently have a couple of sets of keys handed in and are looking for their rightful owners!

Set 1 was found on the highway between Huonville and Franklin and includes:
• A BYD car key fob
• A green house key
• A key with a rubber top

Please note these keys and fob have been run over and are a little squashed but are still in working order!

• A key set with a keychain

CFLC Community Outreach is coming to the Huon Valley, and parents and caregivers of children aged 0–5 are being asked to share what activities and services they'd like to see in their community. 💚

The Child and Family Learning Centre (CFLC) Community Outreach program:

✅ Supports children and families to access early learning and support services
✅ Responds to the unique needs of each local community
✅ Could include a Hub at Huonville Primary School where families can connect with services and support
✅ May offer outreach support like transport to help families get to services

🩺 Welcome, Dr Tim Andrewartha! 🩺

We're delighted to announce that Dr Tim Andrewartha has joined the Huon Valley Council Medical Services team on a permanent basis.

A Tasmanian through and through, Dr Andrewartha returns to the South of the state after nine years in Northwest Tasmania, drawn by the appeal of small-town primary care. He brings expertise in cardiovascular disease, heart failure management, diabetes care, and palliative care.

And there's more good news — in May our services surpassed 20,000 appointments for the 2025–26 financial year! A milestone that reflects the trust this community places in local healthcare. 🎉

The Tasmanian Government is conducting a Neighbourhood House Needs Analysis to better understand the demands on Houses and support the long-term sustainability of the network — and they want to hear from YOU.

The community survey is open to everyone, including:

✅ Local councils and community organisations
✅ Government staff
✅ Anyone who cares about their local community

📢 Community notice – Tree removal at Wayraparattee CFLC, Geeveston 📢

Next week, on Thursday 18th and Friday 19th, you may notice some significant tree work taking place on the corner of Huon Highway and Memorial Drive — the home of the wayraparattee Child and Family Learning Centre.

🌳🌳 Two large poplar trees will be removed over those two days. Both trees have been assessed by qualified arborists and deemed non-viable, with the potential to pose a future safety risk to the children and community members who attend wayraparattee.

We know these are big, well-known trees and their removal may come as a surprise — so we wanted to let the community know in advance that this work is both planned and necessary.

Today, Council wants to take a moment to recognise and thank the incredible first responders who serve our community — many of whom give their time completely voluntarily.

Whether you're a Tasmania Fire Service volunteer, SES member, or Tasmania Police officer — the hours you dedicate, the training you commit to, and the sacrifices you make do not go unnoticed.

You show up (often at a moment's notice) so that the rest of us can feel safe. That means everything.

Council wants to better understand what's happening across the Valley and how we can better support and connect this work into the future.

🔧♻️ FREE scrap metal drop-off this June! ♻️🔧

Got an old fridge, rusty bike, or washing machine taking up space in the shed? Now's the perfect time to clear it out! 🙌

Huon Valley Council is offering FREE scrap metal drop-off at Southbridge (Huonville) and Cygnet Waste Transfer Stations this June!

📅 Saturday 13 June – Sunday 21 June

✅ What you can drop off:
- Whitegoods (fridges, washing machines etc.)
- Tools, bikes & other scrap metal
- Car bodies
Please note: Fridges and air conditioners will incur a $10 degassing fee.

👥 Available to Huon Valley residents and local businesses
(Not available for commercial collection service operators)

It's a great chance to clear the clutter, reduce landfill, and keep our beautiful region clean! 🌿
