Today, one of our own received a Lifetime Volunteer Service Award, at the Huon Valley
Community Achievement Awards πŸ… 47 years of dedicated volunteering for the Tasmania Fire Service, and the Huon Valley community.

Grant Woolley joined Huonville volunteer fire brigade in 1979, and has held many roles within the brigade. In 1994 Grant was the first member from Huonville to be deployed to the Mainland to a community that was foreign to him, then in 1998 Grant was elected brigade chief by his peers for a 4 year term.

Grant has now attended in excess of 1400 calls, he still attends trainings and incidents with a cheeky grin on his face and passes on his wealth of knowledge. He will always be our Guru of local conditions and terrain!

Important advice below πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡

πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’Tasmania Fire Service is warning of the potential fire safety risk to stockpiling petrol and diesel at home.

⚠️πŸ”₯Storing extra fuel at home increases the risk of fire, fumes, and creates unsafe storage conditions.

➑️ To keep yourself, your household, and your community safe, please be aware of the following advice.

πŸ“Œ Store only small amounts of fuel at home and ensure quantities remain below dangerous goods threshold limits.

πŸ“Œ Use approved, clearly labelled fuel containers that comply with Australian Standards for flammable and combustible liquids.

πŸ“Œ Keep fuel in a cool, well ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and any potential ignition sources to minimise fire and vapour hazards.

πŸ“Œ Store fuel separately from incompatible chemicals, ensuring containers are upright, secure, and protected from heat.

πŸ“Œ Maintain appropriate fire safety equipment, such as a portable dry chemical fire extinguisher, and ensure anyone who may need to use it understands safe operation.

πŸ“Œ Keep all flammable liquids out of reach of children.

πŸ“Œ Be aware that vapours from flammable liquids can significantly increase fire risks in both home fires and bushfires.

The Hilltop Hike unites our community to raise funds and awareness for youth mental health in the Huon Valley. The Huonville Fire Brigade is proud to share in the commitment to nurturing positive initiatives that transform lives. And we’d love your support too!

If we reach the following fundraising goals, we will:

🟒 $1,000 raised: We will complete the walk in our firefighting boots. These weigh close to 3kg.

🟒 $2,000 raised: We will complete the walk in our boots and turn out pants. This will weigh close to 5kg.

🟒 $3,000 raised: We will complete the walk in full gear - that is boots, pants and a jacket! This will weigh close to 8kg. This is our ultimate goal, it’ll be warm and uncomfortable but it’ll be worth it!

Hilltop Hike: Make a donation today to support mental health in the Valley
