Entries are open for the Hunters Hill Spring Garden Competition 2026, with 10 categories celebrating the creativity, hard work and gardening talent of local residents.

The event is presented by Rotary Club of Hunters Hill in partnership with Council, and sponsored by Binet Homes .

There are plenty of reasons to enter, with all entrants receiving free mulch, a tube-stock plant and an invitation to the Gala Prize Presentation Evening with special guest speakers Graham Ross AM and Sandra Ross.

Entries close Monday 28 September, so register now to secure your preferred judging date.

The competition concludes with the Spring Garden Open Day on Sunday 1 November, where the community can visit some of the area's most beautiful gardens.

Hunter’s Hill Council has recently been appointed as the Crown Land Manager for Buffalo Creek Reserve and is preparing a new Plan of Management(PoM) to guide the long-term care, protection and use of this important community space.

Whether you use the reserve for sport and recreation, walking, cycling, enjoying nature, or spending time with family and friends, we want to hear from you.

Your feedback will help inform priorities for the future of the reserve, including recreation opportunities, bushland conservation, accessibility, walking and cycling connections, facilities, and community use.

Council recently received a previously prepared concept plan for a potential upgrade to the Oval to improve its use for sport, particularly youth AFL. While this is one idea being explored, Council wants to hear from everyone who uses, values or has an interest in Buffalo Creek Reserve so the PoM reflects the needs and views of the broader community.

APPLICATIONS CLOSING SOON

Council has recently endorsed a Design Excellence Policy to help achieve high-quality design outcomes across the Hunters Hill Municipality.

We are now seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified professionals in architecture, urban design, landscape architecture, heritage and sustainability to join a new Design Excellence Review Panel. The Panel will provide independent expert advice on the design quality of selected development applications and planning proposals lodged with Council.

A community representative will be one of the panel members appointed to the Design Excellence Panel. If you live in the municipality and have relevant qualifications and experience, please apply via the same application link.

𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐍𝐒𝐖 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐑𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐍𝐨𝐰 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲

From 1 September 2026, the NSW Government's new Statewide Community Participation Plan (CPP) has changed how development applications are notified across NSW.

As a result, Hunter's Hill Council is now required to follow the NSW Government's notification requirements, which replace Council's previous notification policy.

What does this mean?
➡Larger and higher-impact developments will continue to be publicly notified and exhibited.
➡Some lower-impact developments, including many new houses, alterations and additions, dual occupancies and small subdivisions, may no longer require neighbour notification.

Residents should be aware that not receiving a notification letter does not necessarily mean that no development application has been lodged nearby.

Make sure your child is always travelling safely at our free Child Car Seat Safety Checking Clinic. 👶🏼🍼🚗

The next clinic will take place on Saturday 19 September from 9am to 12pm, behind the Hunter's Hill Council administration building, opposite 8 D’Aram St, Hunters Hill.

Child car seats will be inspected by a Transport for NSW Authorised Restraint Fitter, who will ensure your child's car seat or booster seat is properly installed and safe.

This event is open to Hunter’s Hill Council residents only.

Council is seeking Expressions of Interest from built environment professionals to join the Hunters Hill Design Excellence Review Panel.

We are inviting experts in architecture, urban design, landscape design, heritage and sustainability to apply for inclusion in the Panel, which will provide independent, expert and impartial advice on the design quality of selected development applications and planning proposals.

This initiative supports Council's recently adopted Design Excellence Policy, helping to deliver design excellence in certain types of new developments across the Hunters Hill municipality.

The Sydney Marathon is on this weekend. 🏃‍♀️‍➡️🏃‍➡️

Please note there will be increased traffic on Gladesville Bridge as it has been listed as an alternative route while the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Cahill Expressway and Western Distributor are closed. Please follow Live Traffic NSW TCS Sydney Marathon or go to tcssydneymarathon.com for the latest information.

Significant city-wide closures will be in place Sunday 30th August while 40,000 people take part in the TCS Sydney Marathon. 💪

What you need to know:

🏅 Avoid non-essential travel. Travel across the city will be very limited with lengthy detours in place.
🏅 The Sydney Harbour Bridge will be CLOSED from 3am to 11am. The Harbour Tunnel remains open, but delays expected.
🏅 Major roads across North Sydney, Sydney CBD and Kingsford will be CLOSED between 2am and 4:30pm. Expect delays on the Eastern Distributor.
🏅 Special event clearway parking restrictions will be in effect from 12:01am, vehicles left in clearways will be towed and a fee applies.
🏅 Buses and light rail services will be significantly impacted by road closures.
🏅The Cross City Tunnel will be toll-free 5am-4:30pm.
