On 11 November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after four years of continuous warfare. With their armies retreating and close to collapse, German leaders signed an Armistice, bringing an end to the First World War.
Australians are encouraged to observe one minute’s silence at 11am as a mark of respect for those who have suffered and died in Australia's wars and armed conflicts. More information on commemorative services in Tasmania is available at https://www.rsltas.org.au/remembrance-day/ and nationally at https://www.awm.gov.au/commemoration/remembrance-day
