The organisations supporting this essential democratic reform work on issues as diverse as social services, climate change, and digital rights. What unites us is a shared belief that our democracy must work for everyone – not just a powerful few.

🏠 Following strong advocacy efforts in conjunction with Tenants' Union of Tasmania, Shelter Tasmania, Youth Network of Tasmania and Tasmanian University Student Association, we are pleased the House of Assembly voted to support a review of the Short Stay Accommodation Act and its impact on Tasmania’s housing market.

📈 Over the past five years, Tasmania has lost 1,721 whole-homes to short stay accommodation, while average rents have increased by around $7,000 a year and vacancy rates remain below 1% across much of the state.

👏 The successful motion calls for public submissions and a final report with recommendations for reform within six months, a welcome step towards better understanding housing availability and affordability across Tasmania.
