The Premier has announced that following a Cabinet reshuffle, the Hon Roger Jaensch MP, will return to Cabinet as Minister for Community Services and Multicultural Affairs, having previously served in the role (formerly Community Services) in recent years. Marcus Vermey MP has also been appointed to the role of Parliamentary Secretary for Community and Multicultural Affairs.

TasCOSS is acutely aware of the disruption and uncertainty caused by such a frequent churn of reporting ministers, and the challenge of having to build a new relationship and shared understanding each time.

We will be seeking a meeting with Minister Jaensch in the coming weeks to ensure they are quickly brought back up to speed on the priorities for our industry and the operating challenges our members are facing, as well as headline concerns around funding cuts over the Forward Estimates in the recent Budget.

Our Generations Connect: Tech Together program is expanding, and we're preparing a growing collection of mobile phones, tablets, and other technology devices for use in digital skills training sessions with older Tasmanians.

These devices provide valuable hands-on learning opportunities, helping participants build confidence with technology, learn essential digital skills, stay connected with family and friends, and access important online services.

To help get these devices ready for community use, we are seeking donations of:

40*USB-C charging cords
20*Micro-USB charging cords
20*Lightning Cables (Apple/iPhone)
40*USB wall charging plugs/adaptors

Many households, businesses, and organisations have spare charging accessories sitting unused in drawers, cupboards, and office storerooms. By donating these items, you can help older Tasmanians gain the skills and confidence needed to participate safely and independently in an increasingly digital world.

Every contribution, no matter how small, helps us continue delivering practical technology support to older people across Tasmania.

If you are based in Northern or North West Tasmania and would like to support the program, we would still love to hear from you. We have arranged local drop-off points and can discuss the best option for receiving your donation.

To donate or find out more, please send us a message or contact our program manager, Mel Knuckey at [email protected] or 0407 512 315

Thank you for supporting digital inclusion and helping older Tasmanians build confidence with technology.

There are a couple of days left to have your say on modernising the Residential Tenancy Act. (links in comments)

Will improving renters' rights make investors sell up and inflate rents even more? We don't think so, and experience from other jurisdictions backs that up.
