This year’s Premier’s Reading Challenge is off and running at schools around the state!

Why not visit your local library to find a new read to add to your reading tally? Libraries Tasmania has a large collection of books for children and young people:

📚 For children who are learning to read independently, check out early readers. They feature simple vocabulary and repetitive text.

🕵️ For curious kids, try borrowing a Little Explorers book pack. These packs contain five carefully selected books on an early learning topic for children aged 4–8 years.

🖥️ The eLibrary has lots of junior stories on Libby and BorrowBox. Families can also explore StoryBox, where you can watch expert Australian storytellers read diverse and inclusive stories.

🔎 If your little one has a favourite book, you don’t have to spend time searching for similar titles. Simply hop onto our catalogue and check out the “You may also like” tab – you’ll find great suggestions with similar themes and styles.

It's the final days of Dark M**o. Have you visited 91 Murray Street yet?

Explore the Love, Health, Acres, Wealth Market tomorrow afternoon (3:00 pm – 6:00 pm Saturday 20 June) at 91 Murray Street, Nipaluna/Hobart. The market will be filled with fortune tellers, apothecaries and scent makers, and features Sisters Akousmatica, Lou Conboy and Spinnarium, the storytelling oracle.

The market is part of State Library and Archives of Tasmania's new exhibition 𝘈𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦 which will run until 25 October 2026. The exhibition features fourteen artists and focuses on the occult. Step into mystical worlds where spirits, incantations, and shadows are illuminated through art, words, and performance. Got a favourite q***r fantasy or sci-fi read? Bring it along and join a relaxed, welcoming space to chat, share ideas, and connect with other young people 📚💬

Whether you love novels, memoirs, comics, or something in between, all interpretations of “q***r text” are welcome. No pressure - just come along and chat as much or as little as you like.

✨ Young Writers shine at Hobart Library! ✨

Last Friday, Hobart Library came alive with creativity as we hosted our Young Writer’s Club — and what a fantastic success it was!

Ten talented young people joined us for an afternoon of imagination, storytelling, and fun. In a warm and welcoming space, participants shared ideas, enjoyed some popcorn, and let their creativity flow — writing stories, sketching illustrations, and bringing their inspirations to life.
