Agreement on the Conservation of Albatrosses and Petrels ACAP works internationally to conserve albatrosses and petrels

ACAP is a multilateral agreement which seeks to conserve albatrosses and petrels by coordinating international activity to mitigate known threats to their populations. ACAP came into force in February 2004 and currently has 13 member countries and covers 31 species of albatrosses, petrels and shearwaters. In 2019 ACAP's Advisory Committee declared that a conservation crisis continues to be faced by its 31 listed species, with thousands of albatrosses, petrels and shearwaters dying every year as a result of fisheries operations. To increase awareness of this crisis ACAP inaugurated a World Albatross Day to be held annually on 19 June from 2020, the date the Agreement was signed in 2001

Deadline coming up this week for the SCAR Visiting Scholar Scheme

“Are you a mid- to late-career stage scientist or academic working in Antarctic research? This is your chance to apply for the 2026 SCAR [Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research] Visiting Scholar Scheme. We are providing the opportunity to undertake a short-term visit (1-4 weeks) to one or more institutes in a SCAR member country to provide training and mentoring. Awards are USD5000.
