Yesterday was hard. Nature doesnt have βbadβ days...for her, all days are βbusiness as usualβ!
For me it began with the unusual sight of both Dusky Robin parents perched on the nest, peering in and tweeking at something. Separately they often did this to make sure William ate all his bugs ..(escaped food is a waste of energy) .
Some time later, I popped the phone over the rim for a daily record if his progress..
he didnt look well.
He was in fact dead. A victim of blood sucking parasites that are programmed to hatch when babies are lovely and plump π.
Little red marks on his beak showed where the parents had tried to revive him , but no doubt they knew it was a race against time to get him fledged and out of the nest . They perhaps have these
bugs amongst their feathers, but control them with dust & water baths and preening.
I took a video of the little suckers running from William onto my hand but it wont load.. typical..
