Call for research volunteers

Are you living with a traumatic brain injury (TBI), or caring for someone who is?
Researchers from The University of Sydney are seeking input to better understand physical activity preferences for people with TBI. Your voice will help shape future guidelines and improve access to meaningful exercise opportunities.

🕒 The survey takes just 10–20 minutes and is completely anonymous.

Today on World Brain Tumour Day, we take the time to honour the strength of those living with brain tumours and their families, and to remember those we’ve lost 🧡

A brain tumour affects each person differently, but it is important to recognise that it is also a form of acquired brain injury. Because the brain controls how we think, feel, behave, and move, even a small tumour can change how someone experiences daily life - impacting memory, emotions, communication, physical abilities, and independence. These changes can be subtle or significant, and often affect not just the individual, but their loved ones as well.

Today is an opportunity to highlight the importance of early detection and ongoing research. Understanding brain tumours through the lens of brain injury helps foster greater empathy, patience, and support for those navigating these complex and deeply personal challenges.

The National Assistance Card team are jumping aboard our ambitious project to make 7,700 hearts - representing the estimated number of people who acquire a brain injury in Tasmania each year 🩵🧡💙

The handmade hearts will be featured in a meaningful and educational art installation at our BIAW launch event and will then be distributed to people living with brain injury through frontline services, including hospitals and rehabilitation centres.

We would love your help! Follow the link in the comments for more information on how to get involved ✨

🖤💛❤️ National Reconciliation Week 2026 – All In

From 27 May to 3 June, we recognise National Reconciliation Week which is an important time to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to reflect on the role we each play in reconciliation.

This year’s theme, “All In,” speaks to the importance of showing up with intention, humility and care. Reconciliation asks more of us than awareness - it calls us to listen deeply, to learn openly, and to take responsibility for how we contribute to a more just and respectful future.

At BIAT we acknowledge the importance of cultural identity and recognise that cultural safety can only be defined by each individual. BIAT is therefore committed to creating environments where those we work with feel safe and respected through a genuine, culturally responsive approach.

As we mark this week, we stand in solidarity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, and commit to continuing the journey - through our actions, our conversations, and our willingness to reflect and learn.

Together, we encourage our community to listen, reflect and learn this week, and to consider how each of us can take meaningful, ongoing action in support of reconciliation.
