P&C in Caretaker Mode
It has been a struggle this year to be able to find enough people to form an Executive Committee for the P&C to enable it to operate. On May 10th, the P&C found itself with no Executive, and no longer ceases to operate. It is possible though, that the P&C can re-form if parents and/or citizens are willing to take on the role of either President, Vice-President, Secretary or Treasurer. If you, or you and a group of parents, are interested in taking on any of these roles, please contact the school office. We need four positions filled to re-form.
The Tuckshop and Uniform Shop are businesses of the P&C and will continue to operate as normal during caretaker made. The school has taken on the temporary running of the businesses and will continue to do so until a new executive is formed. If a new executive isn’t formed, or it is but the executive decide not to take back the businesses and become a fundraising entity only, the school will take control of the two businesses.
While the P&C is in caretaker mode there will be no fundraising. The Mother’s Day stall was the last fundraising event for the P&C. The school is not permitted to fundraise. The Scholastic Bookclub will continue thanks to the help of former P&C volunteers. As it is not a fundraiser, the school can look after the Bookclub ‘account’ for the P&C, however cash payments will no longer be accepted from parents.
This year the P&C had plans to commence the building of the last few undercover walkways required to keep all of your children out of the rain when they walk to and from their classrooms. Considerations were also being given to an extension to the northern side of the Tuckshop to create a larger uniform shop. Both of those projects are on hold for now.
The Highfields State School P&C has, in the past, been a very active and valued partner of the school, working closely to ensure school facilities were enhanced to give children more than they would normally have. The last such projects were the irrigation installation on the bottom oval and the air-conditioning of the school, completed by the state government last year. This year, for the first time, all of our classrooms will be heated by air-conditioners in winter and cooled in summer. If you would like to be part of a progressive group who can enhance student learning and opportunities in so many ways, please don’t hesitate to contact the school office. We hope to have the P&C up and running again by the end of March next year, at the latest.
