Bingo fun!
The children have been thoroughly enjoying our bingo games β€” taking turns spinning the drum, identifying numbers, and matching them on the board. This play has been a wonderful way to support number recognition, including both single and double digits, as well as one-to-one correspondence.

It’s also encouraged turn-taking, patience, and confident communication β€” all aligning beautifully with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). The EYLF is a national framework that guides early childhood education across Australia. It focuses on helping children develop a strong sense of identity, wellbeing, and a love for learning through play-based experiences.

This bingo activity supported:

Outcome 4 – Children are confident and involved learners:
They were actively exploring and engaging with numeracy, problem-solving and using concentration to play the game.

Outcome 5 – Children are effective communicators

As they all love to sing and dance, we now have a little karaoke machine for them to perform on!

The karaoke machine encourages children to express themselves (Outcome 1), build language and communication skills (Outcome 5), develop confidence and wellbeing through performance (Outcome 3), and engage actively in learning through music and movement (Outcome 4). They also practice turn-taking and support peers, fostering a sense of belonging.

Tea parties are a common event at Kate's Place so we extended this further and created a sensory activity with teapots, cups, and chai, lemon, and peppermint tea bags. They smelt the tea bags, ripped them open, and shared what they noticed. Adding water, they watched the colours change and stirred the tea with spoons.

EYLF Connections:
Outcome 1 - A strong sense of identity. The children showed independence by exploring the tea bags and sharing their thoughts, helping to build their confidence.
Outcome 2 - Connected with their world. Using natural materials helped the children connect with their environment and learn through sensory play.
Outcome 3 - A strong sense of well-being. Fine motor skills were developed by tearing tea bags and stirring, while the calming activity supported their emotional well-being.
Outcome 4 - Confident and involved learners. The children experimented and noticed changes, building curiosity and problem-solving skills.
Outcome 5 - Effective communicators. Talking about smells, colours, and textures helped build language and social skills as they worked together

This was such a joy to watch. As one child started painting their hand, another copied. What started with hands, they then painted up their arms and down their legs.

Body painting engages multiple senses, provides an opportunity for self-expression, improves fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, and was a very relaxing and calming activity!!
