How did you spend your Monday night?

Your Heidelberg SES Volunteers were out and about, training for a flooding event.

Members undertook a significant pumping exercise to practise flood response operations, equipment deployment and teamwork, all in a realistic environment.

We train to keep our skills honed so we are ready to respond when needed by our community.

Your Heidelberg and Nillumbik SES units recently came together to light up an Emergency Relief Centre, both inside and out, as well as practise some casualty handling.

While we hope such a situation never arises, the exercise ensured we are better prepared and more capable of responding effectively should it become a reality.

Thank you to The Greenery for kindly donating proceeds from the Easter prize draw to the Heidelberg SES.

This morning, volunteers from your SES Heidelberg Unit responded alongside FRV, Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police to assist with recovering a patient approximately 50m down an embankment at the edge of the Yarra in Fairfield.

After FRV and SES cleared a path through dense vegetation, FRV’s High Angle Rescue team deployed specialist equipment to secure the patient into a basket stretcher.

SES and FRV crews worked together to safely haul the system to higher ground where the patient was transferred to the care of Ambulance Victoria.

Victoria Police supported by managing the scene and assisting the patient throughout.

Thanks to the combined efforts across all agencies, the patient was recovered without any major injuries.

Happy Wear Orange Wednesday (WOW Day)!

Today is the national day of thanks for our incredible SES volunteers who provide vital emergency support to our communities 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Whether you’ve added a touch of orange to your outfit, planned an orange-themed event, donated to your local VICSES unit, or even joined up as a volunteer, we’d love to hear how you’re celebrating this special day.

Last night your SES Heidelberg volunteers hosted 40 scouts from our local area.

The evening began with a little info on what the SES does, followed by a few hands-on activities: learning how to use hand tools and participating in a mock emergency.

Well done to all involved!

Lifeblood [Red Cross} are currently holding their Emergency Service blood drive. So, your local Heidelberg SES volunteers rolled up their sleeves and donated blood & plasma.
Great cause of course, or was the lure of the snacks at the end? Hmmm...
