๐ŸŸ๐ŸŒŠ YEAR 10 AQUACULTURE IMMERSION DAY โ€“ JCU ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ”ฌ
Five of our keen Year 10 students recently had the fantastic opportunity to head to JCU: James Cook University for an exciting Aquaculture Immersion Day!
Working alongside JCU experts and industry partners, our students got a hands-on look at the science, technology and innovation shaping one of the worldโ€™s fastest-growing industries. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ
The day was packed with practical activities, including:
๐Ÿ”ฌ Exploring the MARFU facilities
๐Ÿฆ Investigating Artemia production and yields under a microscope
๐Ÿ’ง Conducting water quality testing
๐Ÿชธ Learning about the sea urchin spawning process
๐ŸŸ Getting hands-on with a fish dissection
It was an incredible opportunity for students to see STEM in action and discover the wide range of careers emerging within blue-economy careers.
From aquatic animal health and genetics to digital monitoring and sustainable production, aquaculture plays an increasingly important role in global food security and environmental sustainability. ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒŠ
Experiences like this help our students connect classroom learning with the real world and open their eyes to exciting future study and career pathways in the rapidly evolving field of Aquaculture.

A huge thank you to JCU and their industry partners for providing such an engaging and valuable experience! ๐Ÿ‘

Trailblazers Take on Finch Hatton Day 2:
Day 2 was HUGE. We hit the trails in the morning for a few hours, came back to camp, ate pancakes, swam at the creek behind our camp, skipped stones, ate sandwiches, walked 4.5km to the gorge, ate fruit and killer pythons, rode the trails and pump track, ate home-made spaghetti, enjoyed a campfire, ate marshmallows, played โ€˜Imposterโ€™, ate cookies. Needless to say, we went to bed early. We did fit in a shower, donโ€™t worry!

๐ŸŽฎ Minecraft CTF Tournament โ€“ What an Achievement! ๐Ÿ†

A huge congratulations to our Minecraft CTF team โ€“ Chris, Jaan, Connor, Damon, Reardon, Isasia and Morgan!

After an incredible five weeks undefeated, the team went on to win their semi-final and secure their place in the grand final. While they unfortunately didnโ€™t take out the final, they should be incredibly proud of their efforts and achievements throughout the tournament.

Most importantly, the team demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship, teamwork and determination from start to finish. ๐Ÿ‘

Congratulations, team! Youโ€™ve certainly given us plenty to be of! ๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿ†

Trailblazers take on Finch Hatton Day 1:
A stop in to meet Miss Sandiโ€™s Mum for an ice cream in the Burdekin โ€“ Led by Alvin, our whole team shook my mumโ€™s hand and spoke so kindly and gently with her. It made her day. She hears all about our team from Sandi so to meet them in person meant a lot. Then lunch and a beach walk, more driving, tents up, unload the bikes and a ride to the pump track. Dinner at the Criterion Hotel and our jersey presentation ceremony, a board game, cookies and milo and bed. Ye - we packed all that into one day!
