Community members are urged to remain conscious of their emergency risk in the coming days, with the potential for wintry rain, hail, strong winds and blizzard conditions in some parts of the state.

Areas such as South Gippsland, Victoria’s far east coast and Alpine region may see locally damaging winds and the potential for blizzards overnight Thursday and into Friday, with snow forecast to fall at locations as low as 600m.

Community members living in or travelling to these areas are encouraged to use fog lights and remain aware of driving hazards such as debris and any fallen or damaged trees and powerlines.

For up-to-date warnings, download the VicEmergency mobile app and establish a personal watch zone, or visit www.bom.gov.au.

For SES emergency assistance, call 132 500.

INCIDENT CLEAR - Black Spur re-opened

UPDATE 3.10pm
The Maroondah Highway has been re-opened in both directions through the Black Spur, following an earlier serious collision.

Please drive safely and to the conditions between Healesville and Narbethong.

----------------------------

The Maroondah Highway is closed in both directions through the Black Spur, due to a serious collision.

If you're travelling between Healesville and Narbethong, allow up to 90 minutes extra for the significant detour using the Melba Highway and Goulburn Valley Highway through Yea and Alexandra.

Before travelling, check the VicTraffic website at traffic.transport.vic.gov.au for current road closures and hazards.

Use extreme caution when driving in wet, snowy and icy conditions:
❄️ Braking takes longer in these conditions, requiring more space between drivers and the car in front.
❄️ If you encounter ice, you may have little or no control over your vehicle. Avoid accelerating, braking hard or turning the steering wheel.
❄️ Turn on headlights and watch for pedestrians, cyclists and motorbike riders, who can be harder to see.

Emergency services are attending and Transport Victoria will provide assistance with traffic management and recovery works.

The road will re-open only when investigations are complete and it is safe to do so.
