3 New Firefighters! Congratulations to Kim, Kristy and Will for passing their General Firefighting course!

(Left to Right) Kim joined the Fire Brigade to get involved in her new community and has enjoyed meeting so many new people. Kim looks forward to increasing her skills and supporting both the Brigade and the wider community.

Kristy joined the Brigade to protect and support the town she loves. Kristy has made many lifelong friends in the Brigade and looks forward to growing into the best firefighter she can be.

Will joined the Brigade to better himself as a young man and has enjoyed training with so many helpful and friendly mentors. Will looks forward to testing his skills and gaining experience as a Firefighter.

Congrats to all of them and best of luck from Healesville Fire Brigade!

Incident Update: Maroondah Parade House Fire:

Yesterday at approx. 5.45pm we were paged, alongside Badger Creek CFA, to a House Fire on Maroondah Parade in Healesville. Crews were quick to respond and arrived to find the house engulfed in flames. Firefighters quickly put on Breathing Apparatus to protect the neighbouring house that was under threat from burning fences and trees.

With the neighbouring house safe, crews worked to extinguish the house. The fire was quickly contained by both External and Internal Firefighters in Breathing Apparatus. Though the structure remained standing, the contents of the house were unfortunately lost. Thank you to Badger Creek Fire Brigade and Bayswater Fire Brigade-CFA BA Unit for their assistance.

Our thoughts are with the owners.

House fires can happen to anyone this winter, but a few simple steps can make all the difference.

Firstly, every family needs a Home Fire Escape Plan that includes:

- Two ways to escape from every room
- A designated safe meeting place outside (like the letterbox)
Practise it regularly so everyone knows what to do.

To minimise the risk:

- Never leave cooking unattended
- Keep anything flammable away from the stove
- Keep heaters/ fireplaces clear (at least 1 metre from clothing, curtains, toys, etc.)
- Test your smoke alarms monthly and change batteries yearly
- Keep matches and lighters out of reach of children.

For more information visit the CFA website.

Stay safe this winter!

A new battery drop off location is at Healesville Community Link at 110 River Street that allows household batteries, vapes, and other e-waste items to be safely disposed.

A recent House Fire in Upwey shows the importance of proper disposal of batteries. Last year our Brigade also attended to a ‘hot load’ in a garbage truck, likely caused by improper disposal of e-waste causing spontaneous heating.

To further minimise the risk of a lithium-ion battery fire:

- Use chargers and cords that are originally supplied with that device.

- Only charge items in rooms with smoke alarms.

- Avoid charging on soft locations such as couches, beds and carpets.

- Never use batteries or devices that show signs of swelling or bulging, leaking or overheating.

- Buy products from a trusted supplier.

This morning we were paged to a High Angle Rescue on The Black Spur.

On arrival, crews found a vehicle that had slipped off the wet and windy road into the embankment. Thankfully all three people in the vehicle avoided serious injuries. Despite this, the steep and muddy embankment prevented them from leaving their vehicle.

SES, Victoria Police, Ambulance and specialised CFA Rescue crews were soon on scene to perform a 3 person rescue. The Black Spur was temporarily closed to allow a safe rescue. Crews from the SES and CFA Rescue units set up a rope system using our Tanker 1 to safely extract all 3 patients.

Well done to all the crews who came to help in the cold and wet conditions, with those from Marysville carrying snow on their vehicles!

A great effort by all emergency services involved including Marysville SES, SES Healesville Unit, Monbulk CFA, Wandin CFA, Marysville CFA, Badger Creek CFA and many more emergency service workers.

We hope each patient recovers quickly.

FYI To Healesville and surrounding community. Smoke will be visible in the area whilst Forest Fire Management Victoria conducts a planned burn on Mount Toolebewong in the coming days.

The burn will be 127 hectares in size with the goal of reducing the fuel load to decrease the spread and intensity of future bushfires. There is no cause for alarm.

Our Brigade received a generous donation from the grandparents of Weston Keeton, a 7yr old lover of firefighters who tragically passed away in 2014.

Weston’s family honours his memory each year through their 'feed the fire' initiative by donating food to firefighters to celebrate and remember his love for the fire service.

From the USA, his grandparents continue donating to local Brigades during their visit to Australia. We are honoured to be included in this special act of kindness and remembrance. The food and water donated are very much appreciated by the crew.

To Weston’s family, a big thank you for thinking of us at Healesville Fire Brigade. Your generosity and the beautiful way you continue to honour Weston’s memory is truly inspiring.

Thank you to everyone involved in today’s Sausage Sizzle at Bunnings and raising $2,596 for our Brigade!

Thank you to all the members who gave their time today to help support the Brigade and make sure customers got their iconic snag from Bunnings. A big thank you as well to Bunnings for hosting us and to those members who organised such a great fundraiser for our Brigade.

The profits go towards improving our Brigades emergency response capabilities.

Well done to all those involved!

Don't forget to check your smoke alarms with the end of daylight savings!

The end of daylight savings overnight is a good time to check if your smoke alarms are operational. Please check each alarm and replace your 9V batteries.

Don't be complacent, smoke alarms save lives!

A massive effort from the Healesville Community to raise $12,448 for The Good Friday Appeal!

A big thank you to those who donated, both locals and those passing through. It was a great day of interacting with the community and seeing so many give generously.

The funds raised go directly to the Good Friday Appeal which supports the Royal Children's Hospital for the great work they do.

A massive thank you to SES Healesville Unit for manning the Main Street, to Badger Creek Fire Brigade for their participation, to the volunteers from Community Bank Healesville for counting donations and to those who made sure we were well fed throughout the day.

Great effort by all!
