Myall Koala and Environment Group Inc. Protecting the Hawks Nest/Tea Gardens endangered koala population To report ANY koala sighting, call our sightings hotline answering machine on 4997 0878.

The Myall Koala and Environment Group fosters preservation of the locally endangered koala population as well as being actively involved in protecting the Hawks Nest and Tea Gardens environment. The Koala Group is involved in many activities to protect our endangered koalas and the local environment:
• Participating in the Koala Recovery Plan managed by Great Lakes Council, NPWS and other agencies

.
• Planting thousands of koala food trees in public reserves.
• Encouraging residents to plant koala food trees on their own properties by our annual tree giveaway program at the Myall River Festival.
• Removing invasive weeds such as Bitou Bush, Lantana and Honeysuckle from reserves and public land.
• Rescuing sick or injured wildlife, particularly koalas.
• Maintaining a database of koala sightings via our telephone hotline
• Educating the wider community on koala issues by regular reports in the Myall Coast Nota and by presentations at the Walk on the Wild Side Festival.
• Lobbying Council and the state government over inappropriate developments such as those involving excessive tree removal, destruction of core koala habitat, severing of wildlife movement corridors or other environmentally damaging proposals.
• Supporting environmentally sensitive developments such as the ones proposed for North Hawks Nest (now sadly defunct) and North Shearwater. For any sick or injured wildlife phone Native Animal Trust Fund on 0418 628 483 (0418 NATIVE)

"Louise" during her rescue from a chicken pen where she had fallen in Swan Bay, Hawks Nest, NSW, AUSTRALIA on Monday 6 June 2016.
