It was a pleasure on Sunday to present debut HBLFC player Rohan Grout with a guernsey for his first league game with the club. As a Councillor, and 2 time club president, it’s exciting to watch these young players represent our club and Shire in the greater South West Football League.

CITY STATUS - IT’S TIME
The Shire of Harvey is ready to become a city.

There’s almost 32,000 people living in our Shire now. Our population is expected to overtake Bunbury’s in the next few years.

City Status puts our community in a better position to secure funding for the roads, buildings and other things our community needs, taking pressure off ratepayers in this cost of living crisis.

City Status will celebrate our region’s farming families and their rich history, not erase it.

My great-great grandfather James Rodgers, one of Australind’s first settlers, put his shovel in the ground more than 150 years ago, soon farming thousands of acres of land.

I’m sure he would be proud to see the shire take this exciting next step.

The “Harvey Road Board” evolved into “Shire of Harvey” 65 years ago. Now it’s ready for a new name.

Cities like Busselton have large farming areas.

It takes courage and vision to build a future for our children, that same vision my great-great grandfather had.

* Increased funding to support South West FOGO services *

The State Government has increased their offer of funding to support the Harvey Shire to deliver food organics and garden organics (FOGO) services to their community.

The Government has offered a $4.5 million package to support the South West food and garden organics transport rebate to be expanded from $2.7 million to $4.5 million, with a flat rebate of $95 per tonne from 1 July 2026.

The funding provides interim support while work continues toward a longer-term, regionally sustainable processing solution for the South West.

This announcement comes after comprehensive lobying by the Harvey Shires President, and CEO, and they should be commended for their efforts.

The offer will be discussed at the upcoming March Ordinary Council Meeting which will possibly see FOGO reinstated, though up for debate.

Delivering effective waste services is a core responsibility of local government and as Councillor I am aware of community concerns.

IT’S TIME - City Status: ✅

Below is the City of Bunbury Mayor speaking to ABC radio this morning on amalgamations..

The City of Bunbury only want the rate money from the surburban area of Australind, not the rural parts of the Shire to build more groynes in Bunbury.

If you want your area to be well represented and looked after, then our Shire becoming a City is the best option. No Minister will amalgamate 2 sustainable Cities next to each other, as is the case in Perth.

HAVE YOUR SAY - City Status: ✅

The rural parts of the Shire are naturally concerned about losing their identities, and the ramifications of becoming a City.

In the the 1900,s we went from the Wellington Road board, to the Brunswick then Harvey Road boards, to then the Harvey Shire in 1961.

As we are now a rapidly growing Shire with 31,000 people it is time to take the next step to City status, with a name that best reflects the district.

Eg: Harvey Brunswick football club incorporated Leschenault into their name back in the 90’s to reflect the growing number of players coming from Australind.

Our rural towns have aging infrastructure and the Harvey pool 🏊 is reaching the end of its life. Most towns need hall upgrades and the Rec grounds all need work. Roads need bitumen and people want playground’s and footpaths. Yarloop’s tourist precinct needs further work and Binningup will have public amenity needs with the fiveeight development starting soon.

Royalties for Regions & the Covid cash 💰 splash have ended, and we were fortunate that State & Federally we were in a marginal seat that attracted funding for the Harvey library, and the LLC in Australind, in the last election.

Shires rates barely cover staff wages and services in a growing Shire, so it is imperative we position ourselves in the best possible position to attract funding in Perth & Canberra.

The towns will still remain towns, there won’t be lights and high rise anytime soon, and the country feel will still remain. The cows 🐄 can still cross the road, and we can still apply for regional funding.

The best way to stop rates rising is to support city status, so we dont have to look to ratepayers for money, so we can be in the best possible position to tackle those in power for grant funding. 💸

Drop all the conspiracy theories, Councillors wont get paid more, and it wont cost much to change 4 boundary signs & a word on the computer to alter the letterhead .

There’s lots of questions people have. 🤔The Shire Of Harvey website has all the answers people need.

HAVE YOUR SAY - City Status: ✅

The Shire is having a vote to explore the possibility of our region upgrading to the title of a ‘city’.

I know this isn’t normally something you might care about but it can be really useful!

Being recognised as a city will give our club potential to unlock stronger funding opportunities.

For our footy club, that could mean better clubrooms, upgraded facilites, and adding Ovals 8 & 9 in Australind. 🏟️

City status could also bring more attention to our region which can help our community and our club continue to thrive.

I am very honoured and humble to have been re-elected for a fifth term by the Harvey Shire community. 🗳️

This re-election is a clear mandate by the ratepayers to put forward my vision.

A big thank you to outgoing Councillors Krispin, Capagreco & Junio for their time on Council and to the community. 👏

Congrats 🙌 to Karen McCarthy, Laurie Morley & Cr Wendy Dickinson on being elected. I look forward to working with you all.

Despite the abuse, the death threats, the bias from certain community social pages, and the carping from the snowflake ❄️ socialist lefties, common sense and anti woke has prevailed.

I look forward to representing all of the Shire, as I have always done, in consultation with my colleagues, going forward. 👌

Representing the people. 👌

🗳️ Vote 1 Craig CARBONE ✅

ONLY A FEW DAYS LEFT - This election it has been nice to have some positive contributions to my posts, and genuine concerns in the Shire raised.

If elected I will follow up on those concerns including;

✅ A sound wall opposite Stanley Road to stop noise and light effecting residents.

✅ Provision of a footpath from the spud shed to roundabout.

✅ An entry statement on Paris Road into Australind.

✅ A review of the playground strategy in All localities of Australind to see if any upgrades can be expedited.

✅ Investigate if there is any land available in Treendale that can be used as a dog park.

I pledge to look at these in addition to my vision in previous posts.

In recent times I have worked closely with;

✅ Ester Italiano to get the Harvey Inclusive playground through Council.

✅ Julianne Hill to get the 4 court tennis upgrade in Brunswick through Council.

✅ The Brunswick Ag Society committee to get its kitchen upgrade for the Murray Piggott pavilion.

Actions speak louder than words - To get things done;

Rubbish 🗑️ is costing the ratepayer big. 💰

🗳️ Harvey Shire Election. 1 week to go 🗳️

Since FOGO was introduced over a decade ago it’s been a financial burden for Council and ultimately rate payers. 🤷‍♂️

Since Dec 24 FOGO has been going to landfill due to contamination levels above 1%! 🤦

Representations have been made to the I State Government, as millions of dollars are required to fix the problem, money our community doesn’t have, but it’s fallen on deaf ears. 👂

✅ I will, if re- elected, move a motion to return to the 2 bin, weekly pick up system, if the State Govt doesnt step in shortly - a system we see in many other areas.

If people are passionate about their FOGO they should contact the State Govt Minister, who lives in our Shire, Don Punch MP, with their concerns. 📞 📧

There’s been a lot of empty rhetoric around this campaign, so here’s some things I’ll be supporting, or fighting for, in the coming 4 years if elected.

🗳️ Harvey Shire Election 🗳️

✅ A restaurant on the Ridley Place foreshore.

✅ An upgrade to the Australind Shire offices to house more staff, and return Council meetings to Australind in our fastest growing area

✅ The additional $20 million court upgrades at the LLC.

✅ The construction of the Harvey Inclusive Playground.

✅ Seniors housing opportunities in Harvey

✅ The completion of the Yarloop workshops precinct and tourism opportunities as well as local street upgrades.

✅ The funding and establishment of a new improved skate park in Binningup.

✅ Design work and funding opportunities for an upgrade to HBL football club.

✅ The investigation of a second football ground at Brunswick with toilet upgrades near the Murry Piggott pavilion.

✅ Funding opportunities for Ovals 7 & 8 in Australind.

✅ Infrastructure needs for Binningup with the progression of the five eight Southern subdivision.

✅ The development of bush trials and bike tracks.

✅ keeping rates as low as possible to service the needs of our communities.

For this, and more to our other localities, too many to list;
