Harkaway Primary School is situated four kilometres from Berwick, on the fringe of the south-east growth corridor of Melbourne, but remains a rural haven. The school site, which overlooks the valley below, is environmentally aesthetic and includes vast play spaces for the children. The school was established in 1876 and in 2016 celebrated 140 years of excellence, under the banner of ‘Looking Back,

Looking Forward’. Throughout the school’s long history, a nurturing culture of inclusion, acceptance and optimism and become entrenched within the whole school community. Parents play a significant part in supporting the school with active involvement in the teaching programs of all classrooms, school governance, finance and a wide range of extra curricula activities. There is strong parent support for the integrated pedagogical approach of multi-age groupings, the discovery-learning program and co-teaching, together with extra curricula activities, camps and a range of traditional events.

Making a Difference at Harkaway Primary School! ♻️🌱

Our students have been getting involved in Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme, helping to recycle eligible drink containers while making a positive difference to our environment.

It’s a fantastic way for our students to learn about sustainability, reduce waste and see how small actions can make a big impact!

The bags are hanging at the front of the school and we are also happy to collect any donations at the front office. We are raising money for our students school garden to plant, harvest, cook and share our feast together!

🌏 Connecting with IB Schools! 🌏

On Thursday, our teachers had the wonderful opportunity to visit Rivercrest Primary School and connect with another IB school. It was a fantastic chance to share ideas, learn from one another and see how the IB framework comes to life in another school community.

Our teachers are excited to continue building these connections and are looking forward to visiting Kunyung Primary School on Friday! We can’t wait to keep learning, collaborating and sharing ideas with fellow IB educators. 🤝✨

🎉 100 Days of Prep! 🎉

On the 28th July, our Prep students celebrated reaching an incredible 100 days of school!

The day was filled with lots of fun, laughter and learning as we reflected on how much we have grown and learned over our first 100 days. We dressed up, shared special treats and celebrated all the wonderful milestones we have reached together. 🥳📚✨

We were honoured to welcome a special delegation to Harkaway Primary School this week, including the Secretary General for Primary and Secondary Education of Indonesia.

The visit celebrated our involvement in supporting their Climate Change Education Curriculum. During the visit, our students proudly showcased the interactive climate change games they have been using to learn about climate change, natural hazards, and ways to stay safe during emergencies.

It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to share their learning, connect with international visitors, and demonstrate how education can empower young people to care for our planet and build more resilient communities. We are incredibly proud of how confidently and enthusiastically our students represented our school!
