✨✨✨Fast Fact Friday✨✨✨

How much do you know about Ostriches?

🪶They are the largest bird in the world, growing up to 2.5m tall and weighing 90-150kg.

🪶They are sexually dimorphic, meaning the males and females physically look different. Males are slightly larger with black body feathers, while females are smaller with brown/Gray body feathers.

🪶Both parents play a role in egg incubation. Females will sit on their clutches during the day, as their lighter feathers camouflage with the ground; the males will sit at night as their black feathers camouflage in the dark.

Head down this weekend and meet our lovely female Ostrich Bo 🤎

If they fits...they sits 👍

Weight training is a key part of how we monitor our animals. It allows keepers to catch health concerns early, change diets, and track overall
well-being.

The best part.....the animals do this voluntarily! When the animals choose to participate, it means they trust us keepers and are happy to help in their
own caretaking - making their lives (and our keepers) much less stressful.

Visit today to see the amazing bonds between the keepers & animals up close 💜

Our Dingoes always get in their daily steps 🐾
Dingo walking is one of our Native keepers favourite activites - and our dingoes love it too!
Giving our dingoes daily walks is a perfect form on enrichment as they get to smell new things, see different animals, and exercise the many muscles
in their body 💪
Enrichment like this makes a huge difference in our Dingoes lives - a happy active dingo is a healthy curious Dingo.
Come down today to meet our three cheeky boys - you may even see them on their afternoon walks 😜

Rise and Shine! Time to learn about Sun Conures

🦜Sun Conures are naturally found in multiple regions across South America. Due to a large amount of international exports into the pet trade, they are listed as Endangered by the IUCN.

🦜These birds are found in flocks of around 15-30. Within these flocks, they live as monotonous pairs for breeding.

🦜In captivity, these birds are known to be super intelligent. To prevent boredom from occuring, keepers often provide puzzle feeders and shreddable natural materials.

Come visit today to see our two flocks today and hear their loud but cute vocalisations.

How much do you know about Olive Pythons?

🐍they are one of Australia's largest snakes, measuring between 2-5m and weighting between 10-20kg.

🐍Females will lay clutches with around 8-30 eggs. The female will coil around these eggs for 7 weeks, making sure they are warm and safe from predators

🐍This snake is non-venamous and will contract their prey before eating it whole. Due to their detachable low jaw bones they can eat prey over 3 times it's head size.

Unfortunately our juvenile Albino Olive Python Ramen lives off display to help him grow. You may be able to meet him during our daily Snake encounters that run 11:45 & 3:15!

Guess the sound!!
It's Messi our Tasmanian Devil 🩶

Tasmanian Devils got their names when European settlers heard their unique shrieks and growls in the Tasmanian bush and thought they were surrounded by hidden demons 😲.

Though they may sound scary and angry, these vocalisations can mean a wide variety of things.

How much do you know about Spiny Leaf Insects?

🦗 Female Spiny Leaf Insects have adapted so their eggs look like small plant seeds. Because of this, ants will pick up the eggs and keep them in their nests; this protects them from predators and keeps them nice and warm.

🦗 These insects use their body and colour to camouflage into their environment and to protect themselves. When a predator spots them, they will raise their tails above their heads, making them look like scorpions.

🦗 They are found across the coastal regions of Queensland and New South Wales, inhabiting rainforests and Eucalyptus forests.

As you enter our zoo, you will find these insects, along with some other species, ready to greet you 😊
