📝Our Year 8 students have spent the last few weeks learning about how political parties are made and run and how to campaign for change within the school.

They had the opportunity to create their own parties and hold an election, where fellow Year 8s and staff cast their vote for the party who they believed could lead a positive change to our school community!

Results are still pending!

The Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Awards are Australia’s leading national poetry competition for R-12 school students, encouraging engagement with language, creativity, place, and identity. Each year, thousands of students from across Australia participate, contributing to literary education and supporting emerging voices. The awards are held annually from 1 March to 30 June, with the winners announced on the first Friday of September.

Our poets are encouraged to take inspiration from wherever they may find it, however if they are looking for some direction, they are invited to use this year’s optional theme to inspire their entries. The optional theme for 2026 is “The Traveller”.

Students are encouraged to write about topics and experiences that spark their poetic genius (in whatever form they choose.) As always, it is an optional theme. Students are encouraged to write about topics and experiences that spark their poetic genius.

Prizes range from $150 to $500, and there is also have an opportunity to win $1,000 for our school!

If students have already entered the SAETA competition, they are also able to enter their same work in this competition.
