Meet Nora Heysen (1911–2003) 🎨 the first woman to win the Archibald Prize and Australia's first female official war artist.

She grew up at The Cedars, but built an artistic legacy entirely her own. Her original studio still stands here today, open to the public.

Heysen: A Shared Legacy is more than an exhibition of paintings.
Alongside works by Hans and Nora Heysen, you'll find original family items on display — some of the very same objects that appear in their paintings.
It's a rare chance to see the real thing standing beside the artwork it inspired, and to step even closer into the world the Heysens lived in.

Love art, history, and beautiful places? The Cedars is looking for volunteers.

We have a range of roles on offer: guides to share the stories of Hans and Nora Heysen with our visitors, retail volunteers to help in the shop, and garden volunteers to help care for the grounds that inspired so much of Hans's work.
It's a wonderful way to be part of something meaningful, meet like-minded people, and spend time in one of the Adelaide Hills' most beautiful settings.
