Tonight, firefighters from 312 Gulgong underwent annual proficiency training on our Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS), and took receipt of a new Matrice 4TD. The new platform features a range of new AI features as well as augmented reality, making it easier to locate people, vehicles and moving objects, and to make it easier to navigate in low light operations. Rated to fly in heavy rain and high wind conditions, the platform allows us to put an eye in the sky even in some of the most demanding conditions. A great piece of technology that services not only Gulgong, but many other areas right across our region.

At 1453hrs this afternoon, Pump 312, Rehab 312, Pump 387 and the NSW Rural Fire Service were responded to a fully involved house fire on the Castlereagh Highway west of Gulgong.

Upon arrival, crews got to work, committing two separate firefighting crews to an intense fire on the western side of the house. Together with the assistance of the NSW Rural Fire Service, the fire was brought under control. Unfortunately, and sadly, very little was able to be saved as a result of the fire.

Although investigations are ongoing, it is believed the fire was caused by a lithium ion battery that was on charge inside of the house. A timely reminder to all homeowners to be vigilant when charging batteries, especially inside the home.

At 0016hrs this morning, Pump 312 and Rehab 312 were called to a motor vehicle accident on Guntawang Road, along with NSW Police, NSW Ambulance, NSW Rural Fire Service, and VRA Rescue NSW. Upon arrival, crews found a single utility that was towing a trailer, which had left the roadway and rolled. A total of three patients were involved in the accident, with one male, the driver of the vehicle, being trapped. Fire and Rescue NSW crews worked to cut and free the driver from the vehicle who was then transported to hospital by NSW Ambulance, along with the other two occupants of the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle had been driving from a location some distance west of Dubbo, and was en route to Sydney. Although the exact cause of the accident wasn’t known, it was believed to be very likely the result of fatigue, which the driver had also suspected. A good, timely reminder to stay safe on the roads, especially in wet weather. You’re better off arriving alive, than not at all.

At approximately 2233hrs last night, Pump 312 and Rehab 312 were called to a motor vehicle accident on the corner of Medley and Fitzroy St in Gulgong. Upon arrival crews immediately initiated a rescue to free one male who was severely trapped inside of the vehicle. Crews initially removed the passenger side of the vehicle to provide access for NSW Ambulance paramedics to begin treatment and assessment, which allowed time to carefully remove the driver’s side of the vehicle from around the patient. Together with NSW Ambulance paramedics, the patient was then removed from the vehicle for transport to Billy Dunn Oval for retrieval by Toll Air Ambulance.

Despite severe deformity to the vehicle, and significant damage to the telegraph pole, the male is expected to make a full recovery, having sustained only non-life threatening injuries. A very lucky outcome given the severity of the accident.

At 0514hrs this morning, Pump 312 and Rehab 312 were responded to assist Pump 387 Mudgee, Hazmat Tanker 387 Mudgee and the NSW Rural Fire Service at a building fire on Madeira Road in Mudgee. With the assistance of our Remotely Piloted Aircraft System, crews were able to quickly determine the location of the fire (seen in some of these images) and commit firefighters to the building to bring the fire under control, undoubtedly saving millions of dollars worth of potential damage in the process. Firefighting operations have now concluded, and crews are currently being rehabilitated. A great outcome given the circumstances, which easily could have resulted in a much worse outcome for the building and community.

A few weeks ago we collected a bag full of lollies from the very generous people at Blue Springs Highland Cows , who very kindly donated lollies for our yearly Santa Run. If you look closely, you’ll notice what’s wrong with the image.

Hint: Firefighter Chetcuti had her eyes closed for the photo. Come on, Amanda! 🙄
