The much loved Moore River Estuary is under threat of degradation by urban development. It is a pristine and stunningly beautiful bush area that is a breeding ground for endangered species, most notably Carnaby's Cockatoos. The Moore River Company owns the beautiful bushland south of the estuary and plans to develop it. The Friends of Moore River Estuary must now make appeals to Moore River Company and to the Gingin Shire to protect this unique area of cultural and environmental heritage. The level of threat demands direct and concerted community action. The problems with the Moore River Company proposal go far deeper than concern with their Outline Development Plan. The unique area south of the estuary, much of which has been classified as 'pristine excellent,' has been re-zoned from Rural to Urban Development. There is no prohibition to future development almost up to the southern shore.
