FOR ALL EMERGENCIES RING 000

The Gruyere Fire Brigade is composed of a small group of local volunteers who meet at least weekly and make themselves available to help in times of local emergencies. The Gruyere CFA Fire Brigade regularly attends situations that occur in the neighbouring towns and appreciate forming close ties with the local community and other CFA brigades in the Yarra Ranges area.

Gruyere Fire Brigade was registered with the CFA on February 26th 1962, as a B Class Rural Brigade. The first brigade management team were:
o J Crossman – President
o T Bigham – Captain
o J Crossman – 1st Lieu
o P Cook – 2nd Lieu
o E Cope – 3rd Lieu
o W Edgell – 4th Lieu
o C Madden – Apparatus Officer
o G Johnston – Secretary
The first brigade list showed 42 members, most of whom were transferred from the Wandin Brigade. (This information was kindly provided to us directly by the CFA records). Today marks the end of volunteer appreciation week. We thank all our incredible volunteers, but would like to highlight one particular person. Tony E.

Tony E has been a member for over 25 years. Last week he & strike team 1392 were presented with a unit citation for courage following deployment to Mallacoota during the 2019/2020 summer. Their actions during this time were extraordinary, assisting the community of Mallacoota while facing serious danger.

Well done and thankyou.

Ever thought…

“Maybe one day I might join the CFA.”
“I’m just not sure if I have the time.”
“I don’t really know what it takes to be a volunteer firefighter.”

You’re not alone — and that’s exactly why we’re holding an Information Night at Gruyere CFA.

Come along, meet the team, ask questions, and find out what volunteering is really about. No pressure, no expectations, and no commitment — just a chance to see how becoming a volunteer firefighter could fit into your life.

On International Firefighters’ Day, 4 May, we thank all our firefighters for the incredible work they do protecting our community in times of emergency, whether bushfire, structure fire, road trauma, and other emergencies.

We thank their families supporting them to do this important work, especially local CFA brigades of the Maroondah and Yarra Valley Groups, and all of CFA and FRV.

We also thank them for their proactive community engagement ahead of fire season to raise awareness and ensure people can be fire ready.

And, importantly, we remember all firefighters that have died while serving or as a result of illness related to firefighting.

Thank you - you’re true heroes.
