A Total Fire Ban has been declared for Southern Region from 2am, Wednesday 4 February until 2am, Thursday 5 February.

A suspension in the issuing of fire permits is in place in the Northern Region from 2am, Wednesday 4 February to 2am, Saturday 7 February.

During the total fire ban period:
❌ No fires are permitted in the open, including:
❌ incinerators
❌ burn-offs
❌ campfires and fire pots
❌ wood-fuelled barbecues

❗Restrictions apply to:
🔴 Welding, grinding, charring, soldering or gas cutting outdoor must comply with the Tasmania Fire Service Hot Work Guideline
🔴 Harvesting, slashing or other outdoor machinery must comply with the Tasmania Fire Service Machinery Operations Guideline.
🔴 Forestry Operations must comply with the Tasmania Fire Service Forest Operations Guideline
🔴 Commercial outdoor cooking or catering activities must comply with the Tasmania Fire Service Outdoor Oven Guideline

The Fire Permit Period for all of Tasmania will start today (Tuesday, 16 December 2025) – this means from 2am Fire Permits will be required across the state until the end of the 2025-26 bushfire season 🔥📃

If you have a property and you wish to conduct a burn (larger than 1 cubic metre in size) on your property, you will need to apply for a free Fire Permit by submitting an application online at fire.tas.gov.au or calling the Tasmania Fire Service on 1800 000 699

📲 During a Fire Permit Period:
📑 People intending to light a fire for burning vegetation or for a similar purpose must obtain a permit.
📑 People intending to light a fire at a sawmill or factory for burning wood waste or other flammable material must obtain a permit.
📑 People intending to light a fire for cooking, warmth or disposal of garden waste do not require a permit provided that:
❌ The fire is not lit in peat, humus or marram grass.
❌ The fire is attended by a responsible adult at all times until it is extinguished.
❌ All flammable material is removed for at least three metres radius from the fire.
❌ It is less than one cubic metre in size.

It may be autumn, but there is some warm weather forecast across the state tomorrow so it is important to stay vigilant.

🔥 Check any recent burns you may have had on your property to ensure they’re completely out and won’t reignite.

✅ If you start a fire, make sure it's fully extinguished – soak it, stir it, and soak it again to make sure it is out, and never leave it unattended.

👀 Be alert for smoke and flames, and if you see anything concerning, report them immediately by calling Triple Zero (000).

🔥 Remember, if you're planning a burn, large or small, remember to register it or apply for a permit (if over 1 cubic metre in size).

👀 If you’re a landowner who has recently had a fire on their property, please check the fire area immediately to ensure it is properly extinguished.

👀 If you’ve had a campfire in recent days, make sure it’s fully extinguished now – soak it, stir it, and soak it again to make sure it is out.

ℹ️ If you live in a bushfire prone area please review your bushfire survival plan now, and keep up-to-date on changing conditions as the warm weather progresses.

ℹ️ If you're away from home camping or enjoying the long weekend, make sure to check the warnings for the specific area that you're in, and make a plan for how to stay safe in the event of a bushfire.

We've been very lucky to have had a mild bushfire season so far, but there is warmer weather and strong winds forecast for southern Tasmania on Monday, so it is important to stay vigilant.

🏕️🚗 If you’re camping or traveling this weekend, remember these key things to help protect our beautiful state.

✅ If you've had a campfire, make sure it is fully extinguished before Monday – soak it, stir it, and soak it again to make sure it is out.

🔥 Check any recent burns you may have had on your property to ensure they’re completely out and won’t reignite.

👀 Be alert for smoke and flames, and if you see anything concerning, report them immediately by calling Triple Zero (000).
