Griffith Meals on Wheels and Hampers of Hope

Griffith Meals on Wheels and Hampers of Hope Meals on Wheels delivers nutritious meals & social support- includes visits, group exercise & more

Meals on Wheels enables people to be independent in their own homes for longer. Most people prefer to live at home, but in many cases they need support to do this. Without Community Services such as Meals on Wheels clients are at risk of premature admission to aged care. Meals on Wheels seek to actively educate clients and reduce the high risk of malnutrition in older people. Improving nutrition reduces falls and other
associated health risks in older people.

15 June – World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

Today, we stand together to recognise World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

At Griffith Meals on Wheels, we believe every older person deserves to live with dignity, respect, and safety in their home and community. Elder abuse—whether it is mistreatment, neglect, or harm of any kind—is never acceptable.

We encourage our community to join us in speaking up, staying informed, and supporting efforts to prevent elder abuse in all its forms. Together, we can help ensure older people are valued, protected, and heard.

💜 Join us and stand up against the abuse, mistreatment, and neglect of older people.
Together, we can stop elder abuse.

If you are worried about the abuse, neglect, or exploitation of an older person or adult with disability in NSW, support is available:

💙 Men’s Health Week | June 15–21

From June 15–21, we recognise Men's Health Week, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the health and wellbeing of men in our community.

It’s a chance to check in on the fathers, partners, grandfathers, brothers, friends, and neighbours in our lives—and encourage open conversations about both physical and mental health.

At Griffith Meals on Wheels, we see every day how important connection, nutrition, and community support are to overall wellbeing.

This week, we encourage everyone to:

Reach out and check in on the men in your life
Talk openly about health and wellbeing
Encourage regular health check-ups
Remind each other that support is always available

A simple conversation can make a real difference.

💙 Let’s continue building a strong, caring, and connected community—not just this week, but every week.

We’re on the lookout for unwanted adult jeans with pockets for a special sewing project!

If you have any old or unused adult denim jeans, we’d love to give them a new life. Jeans with intact pockets are especially welcome, as they’ll be repurposed into something creative and useful.

All sizes and gently worn conditions are appreciated.

Please drop donations to Shop 1, 50-56 Banna Ave.

Thank you for helping us turn something old into something new 💙

We’re reaching out to our local community to see if anyone has an excess of fresh fruit or herbs growing in their gardens that they would be happy to donate.

These donations will go directly towards our Hampers of Hope program, helping us support individuals and families in need with fresh, healthy produce.

If you have fruit trees or herb gardens that are overflowing, we would be incredibly grateful for anything you can spare—nothing is too small.

🍊🍋🍑 We’re especially interested in seasonal fruit, citrus, and fresh herbs.

If you would like to donate but need a hand with picking, please don’t hesitate to let us know. We may be able to arrange someone to assist you.

Thank you for helping us support the community and share the abundance around us 💛

Please message us if you can help or would like more information.

🎥 A Day in the Life of Tina Turnip

Tina Turnip had quite the day—she enjoyed her time in the spotlight, toured the office, posed for photos, and soaked up every minute of her newfound fame.

But as with many celebrities, the spotlight can be fleeting… 😅

A huge thank you to S&K Armanini Seasonal Produce for donating this incredible 4.08kg turnip. Tina brought plenty of laughs, smiles, and conversation to the office before fulfilling her ultimate purpose.

At Meals on Wheels, we often say it’s more than just a meal—and this is why.

When a volunteer arrives at the door, it’s not only food being delivered. It’s a moment of connection. A quick check-in. A familiar face in someone’s day.

For some people, this visit may be the only interaction they have that day.
That’s why the knock on the door matters just as much as what’s in the bag.

It’s not just about nutrition.
It’s about wellbeing, dignity, and knowing someone is thinking of you.

That’s why we don’t just deliver meals.
We deliver care, connection, and a little bit of comfort.

Because it really is more than just a meal.

🌱 World Environment Day – 5th June

Every day, good food is at risk of being wasted.

At the same time, there are people in our community who could really use a helping hand.

Through our Hampers of Hope program, we help bring those two things together.

We work with local supermarkets to rescue fresh, good-quality food that would otherwise go to landfill. Instead of being thrown away, it is carefully collected, sorted, and shared with people in our community who need it most.

💚 It’s food that still has value.
💚 It’s support for people doing it tough.
💚 It’s one less load of waste going to landfill.

But more than that…
it’s dignity. It’s relief. It’s knowing someone cares.

Behind every hamper is a simple truth:
good food should feed people, not bins.

🌏 This World Environment Day, we’re reminded that caring for the planet and caring for people are deeply connected.

💬 If you’ve ever reduced waste, shared food, or helped a neighbour—thank you. It matters more than you know.
