Celebrating the Sunshine State! ☀️ Last Saturday The 25th / 49th Battalion, Royal Queensland Regiment supported the official Queensland Day Ceremony at Government House Queensland marking 167 years since the establishment of our State.

Our soldiers led the ceremonial parade and formal proceedings, where the Governor of Queensland Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, and the Premier of Queensland David Crisafulli MP joined guests in celebrating the people, history and spirit that define Queensland.

As citizen soldiers within the Australian Army, and proud Queenslanders, it is an honour and a privilege to represent and serve the nation and our great state.

Boom!💥 Here comes the boom! 🚀 Last weekend The 25th / 49th Battalion, Royal Queensland Regiment traveled down the School of Infantry in Singleton to conduct Exercise Gold Top 26. The exercise aimed to qualify 25/49 RQR soldiers, and a number of 9 RQR soldiers in a suite of high explosive Direct Fire Support Weapons (DFSW), as well as to expose all attendees to a firepower demonstration (live fire) of DFSW capabilities, including a Javelin missile!

A large number of soldiers qualified on the 40mm SL40 gr***de launcher attachment, the 66mm M72 Light Anti - Tank Weapon, and the 84mm M4 Medium DFSW. Additionally, all attendees got the chance to participate in or observe the DFSW firepower demonstration (live fire) where the full suite of DFSW weapons including the 84mm M4s, 7.62mm MAG-58 machine gun in the Sustained Fire (SFMG) role, and the FGM-148 Javelin in Anti - Tank (top attack) role, were employed in a tactical scenario with live radio communications and fire control orders,

Our soldiers have an individual and collective responsibility to be trained, ready and able to shoot, move, communicate and medicate on the battlefield. We fight as a team, but to do so we must ensure we as team members are qualified in our weapon systems, know how to employ them effectively, and know their capabilities.

Stay tuned for our next post which will include some videos!

Duty First! ⚔️Recently the 25th / 49th Battalion, Royal Queensland Regiment has been busy conducting individual and collective training in support of Theatre Mission 1 - Defend Australia. In just the last few weeks our soldiers have conducted Army First Aid and Tactical Care of the Combat Casualty courses, the Conduct After Capture course, completed weapons handling tests and range practices, utilised the night fighting training facility, conducted communications equipment training with 8th Signal Regiment, conducted All Arms Call for Fire training, and copious amounts of battle PT. We’ve also taken time out to recognise some of our soldiers for the service with long service medals, promoted some of our outstanding junior soldiers, and led the way by our people topping junior officer career courses.

As Australian Army reserve members, our soldiers are always striving to be competent, capable, professional and above all, ready. This weekend the Battalion heads to the Singleton School of Infantry to live fire our heavy weapons - including live firing a Javelin missile. Look out for the incoming highlights!! 🚀

Command and Leadership 🫡 Over the past four days, the leadership team of the 25th / 49th Battalion, Royal Queensland Regiment conducted the 11th Brigade - Australian Army facilitated Exercise Arras Battle Staff Trainer at Gallipoli Barracks. This exercise was the first time the battalion brought together its key leaders and enablers, including embeds from 12th/16th Hunter River Lancers, 11th Engineer Regiment - Australian Army, 11th Combat Service Support Battalion - Australian Army, 8th Signal Regiment, and other supporting units to form the leadership team of the battalion led Task Unit that will deploy to Gladstone, Queensland on Exercise Austral Shield 26 - the culminating collective training exercise for the 2nd Division - Australian Army for 2026.

During the exercise, the Task Unit staff initially conducted refresher training on security tasks conducted by Defence Australia in a Domestic Security and Response setting, including protecting critical infrastructure and communities in Australia, before completing a full Deliberate Military Appreciation Process (DMAP) on how the Task Unit, as a Australian Army force element, would deploy on such a task. The Task Unit then conducted extensive command post training and immediate planning serials, including rehearsing the entire process of planning and executing a deliberate Domestic Security and Response task; from receipt of mission from higher HQ, right down to the issuing of orders by subordinate tactical level units.

This training is vital to ensure the 25/49 RQR led Task Unit is not only ready Exercise Austral Shield 26, but more importantly, that we are ready to fight tonight if needed.

Battle Conditioning, Battle Lethality, Battle Survivability. 💪🏻 At 25th / 49th Battalion, Royal Queensland Regiment, our soldiers must be able to competently and effectively shoot, move, communicate and medicate on the battlefield. And the only thing that enables that is realistic and challenging training.

Over the past couple of weeks all of the battalion’s sub-units have been working hard to enhance and build on foundation skills: A and B Coy’s have been engaged in gruelling battle PT and section level offensive operations drills, C Coy have been conducting the Army First Aid (AFA) and Tactical Care of the Combat Casualty (TCCC) courses, and Support Company have been qualifying members on the new sighting system for the 84mm Anti-Tank Direct Fire Support Weapon (DFSW), using Defence Australia’s Weapons Training Simulation System (WTSS).

As members of the Australian Army, 25/49 RQR soldiers are always training and learning to ensure we are ready to fight and win on the battlefield.

Kick it off….run it up…Try!! 👏🏻🏉 Having the opportunity to be involved in well organised and high level team sport is one of the best extra things being in the Australian Army gives you. Not only that, the Army values of Courage, Initiative, Respect, and Teamwork are just as relevant on the sporting field as they are on the battlefield.

Recently 25th / 49th Battalion, Royal Queensland Regiment entered a team in the South East Queensland Australian Defence Force Sports Touch Rugby League Competition. Despite being the only reserve unit team in the competition, and being up against powerhouse teams from 7th Brigade - Australian Army and other Gallipoli Barracks based Army teams, as well as some Royal Australian Air Force teams from RAAF Amberley, the battalion‘s team still managed to make the B final and finish 4th overall! An outstanding effort!

And just this week 25/49 RQR soldier PTE Jamika Forsyth, after a strong performance playing for the Land Combat College team, was selected to play on the Australian Army women’s team during the upcoming ADF Rugby tournament! An amazing achievement!

ANZAC Day 2026. 🇦🇺🇳🇿 Yesterday the Battalion supported a large number of community events commemorating 111 years since the first ANZAC's waded ashore under fire at Gallipoli in the early hours of the 25th of April 1915. The day has special meaning for 25/49 RQR, as the 25th Battalion actually served at Gallipoli before moving to the Western Front, where the 49th Battalion also served with the 1st AIF. The vast majority of these soldiers were, just like our soldiers today, Queensland based volunteer Australian Army citizen soldiers.

All over South East Queensland, 25/49 RQR soldiers proudly helped our local communities to remember those who served and celebrate and thank those who continue to serve.

Follow the Sapper! 🫡🇦🇺 Over the weekend the battalion‘s infantry soldiers joined combat engineers from the 11th Engineer Regiment - Australian Army and combat signallers from 141 Squadron - 8th Signal Regiment in executing a deliberate security operations full mission profile, EX PARAPET ATLAS 26.

Led by 11 ER, the 11th Brigade - Australian Army combined arms force conducted detailed planning and rehearsals before conducting a waterborne tactical insertion from HMAS Moreton, along the Brisbane River and into the Brisbane Maritime Museum using 11 ER small boats. 25/49 RQR soldiers then conducted a tactical landing before securing the port facility and conducting a deliberate cordon and search; including of the HMAS Diamantina. Once secure, 25/49 RQR soldiers provided protection at the facility to enable a further detailed search to be conducted by the 11 ER Sappers.

EX PARAPET ATLAS 26 was an excellent opportunity for our soldiers to conduct relevant and realistic combined arms training in support of the 2nd Division - Australian Army theatre mission to defend Australia, and to demonstrate that our Australian Army reservists are trained, capable and always ready.

Running, change! 🏃🏼 Last weekend many members of the battalion joined the over 10,000 people in Brisbane who participated in Run Army Australia 2026! The day is powerful opportunity to promote mental health, resilience, and community spirit as members of the public run alongside frontline workers, and it is particularly important to our many Australian Army reservists who also serve in their full time careers as first responders and emergency service workers.

Supporting the Veteran Community. 🇦🇺 Recently the battalion supported two important veteran community events within our area of operations. The CO and RSM and 2IC and CSM A Company joined the 25th Battalion Association and local dignitaries in commemorating the 84th Anniversary of the 25th Battalions march to and departure from Spring Bluff. Delivering the address, the CO spoke to attendees about the bravery of the soldiers who departed from the railway station during their campaigns and battles in Milne Bay and Bougainville, and how 200 of them never returned.

In the same week, C Company supported the National Service “Unsung Heros” Commemorative Service in Wacol with a catafalque party and command representation. which was also attended by the Governor of Queensland. Attendees remembered and honoured the sacrifice of 33 Queensland based National Service soldiers who were killed in training in Australia between 1965 and 1972.

As members of the Australian Army we are proud to support our local veteran communities and ensure the sacrifices of those who have gone before us are not forgotten.
