Australian Women's History Month is observed in March to celebrate the achievements and contributions of women to society throughout the country's history. It is a time to reflect on the progress made towards gender equality and to acknowledge the ongoing challenges. Focusing on significant Aboriginal women is pivotal, as they have played vital roles in advocating for Indigenous rights, education, and cultural preservation.

Five Famous Aboriginal Women in History:

1. Dr. Anne Poelina (1812-1876):
An inspirational Aboriginal environmentalist. Her dedication to preserving the land and traditional knowledge, as well as her efforts in advocating for sustainable practices, serves as a powerful reminder of the crucial role of Aboriginal women in protecting our planet.

2. Dr. Sandra Eades (1932-Present):
An esteemed Aboriginal doctor and advocate for Indigenous health. Her work focuses on improving access to healthcare and addressing the health disparities faced by Aboriginal communities.

3. Senator Lidia Thorpe (1920-1993):
The first Aboriginal woman to be elected to the Victorian Parliament. Her activism and advocacy for Indigenous rights, environmental justice, and social equality have made a lasting impact.

4. Dr. Margaret Williams-Weir (1940-2015): The first Indigenous person to graduate from an Australian university (Diploma in Physical Education, 1959) and a pioneer in Indigenous education.

5. Evonne Goolagong Cawley AC MBE (1951-Present): A Wiradjuri woman and one of the most successful athletes in Australian history, winning 14 Grand Slam titles across her career.
