On Anzac Day we acknowledge father and son Andrew and Basil Ritchie of Yule Street, Maddington who served together in the same RAAF unit in North-Western Australia. Andrew was a driver and Basil an equipment assistant.

Andrew, who was born in Scotland, enlisted at the age of 40 in 1942 after the RAAF changed its age limits. Basil, born in England, enlisted the following year just three weeks after his 18th birthday.

Their story was featured in the Western Mail on 6 September 1945.

Basil married Miss Beryl Davies of Gosnells in 1950.
