Recent rainfall across NSW has left many farms dealing with waterlogged paddocks, muddy tracks and difficult ground conditions.

While getting machinery and vehicles back to work is often a priority, attempting to recover a bogged vehicle without proper planning can have devastating consequences.

When undertaking a recovery:

✅ Establish an exclusion zone and keep all non-essential people well clear.

✅ Ensure everyone involved maintains clear communication throughout the recovery.

✅ Use only manufacturer-approved and appropriately rated recovery points and equipment.

✅ Remember that vehicles stuck in mud can weigh two to three times their normal operating weight, requiring appropriately rated recovery gear.

✅ Use recovery dampeners where appropriate and never stand in line with a recovery strap, rope or cable.

✅ Stop the recovery if it cannot be completed safely and seek assistance from a competent recovery operator if needed.

Mental wellbeing is as important as maintaining machinery, livestock and crops. Checking in with yourself, family and workmates can make a real difference.

Both SafeWork NSW and the Rural Adversity Mental Health Program - RAMHP encourages rural communities to start conversations about mental health, build connections and access support when it's needed.

Remember, mental wellbeing isn't built through one big action. It's often the small things that have the greatest impact.
