🏉 It's that time of year... our last scheduled home games before finals! 🎉

Whether you're rugging up to cheer on the kids from the sidelines, lending a hand in the kitchen, gearing up for a season-defining game, or simply coming down to support your mates, we'd love to see you.

Be sure to swing by the St John Van and say hello. 👋💚

💚 Sometimes volunteering means giving up a little of our own time… so we can be there for someone else’s biggest moments.

It’s missing a family dinner to support another family in need.
It’s stepping in when someone has no one else.
It’s helping get a patient safely to the care they need.

And sometimes… it’s simply about showing up and building real community connections. 🤝

✨ Every moment makes a difference—big or small.

👉 If you’ve ever thought about giving back, this is your sign. Come along, get involved, and be part of something that truly matters 💚

Reminder!!

While most of our training takes place in the comfort of our Sub Centre, where we can focus on learning without battling the elements, once a year we take part in a large-scale simulated training exercise designed to recreate real-life emergency scenarios.

These exercises give our volunteers the opportunity to put their skills into practice outside the training room and experience the challenges that can come with responding to incidents in the field.

This year, Goomalling will be hosting the Dowerin crew for our annual simulation, and we'd love to invite the community to come along and see what we do!

📍 Where: Railway Terrace end of James Street, Goomalling
📅 When: Saturday 25 July
⏰ Time: From 9:30am onwards

If you've ever been curious about volunteering, emergency response, or the training our crews undertake to help keep our community safe, we'd love to see you there for a sticky beak!

⚠️ Please follow volunteer directions on the day and ensure all children are supervised by an adult at all times for safety reasons.

We look forward to sharing this experience with our community! 💙🚑

📱 A National Test Alert is Coming to Your Phone 📱

On Monday, 27 July 2026, a national AusAlert test message will be sent to mobile devices across Australia, including most phones and some smart watches and tablets.

🚨 What will it look like?
Depending on your device, the alert may appear as:
👉 "Presidential Alert" or
👉 "Extreme Threat Alert"

Don't be alarmed — it’s all part of the official AusAlert test and the message content will be the same.

✅ Received the alert?
No action is needed. It's simply a test to ensure the system works when it's needed most.

❓ Didn't receive the alert?
That's okay too. Your device may not be compatible, or it may not have been connected to a mobile network tower at the time of the test.

💡 Are you AusAlert ready?
Make sure your device is running the latest software updates and restart it after updating to help ensure you can receive emergency alerts in the future.

💬 Have you heard of AusAlert before?
Let us know in the comments! Understanding how emergency alerts work can help keep you, your family and your community safe.

To make sure you're AusAlert ready, always install the latest software updates on your device when asked. Be sure to restart your device after updating.

What to do if you don’t want to receive the AusAlert national test
AusAlerts contain important information and should be turned on to help keep you safe. As the AusAlert national test is a Critical Alert, you can’t turn it off via your device settings.

The only way to not receive a Critical Alert is to turn your mobile device off or switch it to ‘aeroplane mode’ for the duration of the test.

If receiving an AusAlert test message will disrupt you or cause you or a family member to feel unsafe, turn off your mobile devices or switch them to aeroplane mode before the scheduled test time in your location and leave them off for at least one hour.

🚑💥 First Aid Myth Busting: The “Wait… we still do THAT?” edition 💥🚑

Let’s be honest—we all know that person who thinks butter fixes everything… including burns 🧈😬

Time to set the record straight and have a laugh while we’re at it:
🚫 Myth: Slap some butter on a burn
💚 Reality: Save it for your toast! Cool running water is your best friend here
🚫 Myth: Tilt your head back for a nosebleed
💚 Reality: Nope—unless you enjoy the taste of blood 🤢 Lean forward and pinch!
🚫 Myth: CPR always looks like it does in movies
💚 Reality: There’s usually less dramatic music and more sweat… but knowing the right technique can literally save a life
🚫 Myth: “I did a first aid course once… in 2008… I’m good.”
💚 Reality: First aid changes faster than WA weather 🌦️ Techniques get updated, best practices improve, and what you learned years ago might now be outdated
