Join us this International Women’s Day for a special morning tea and discussion with local author Darry Fraser.

Hosted by the Goolwa Women’s Haven, Darry will explore the often overlooked, unpaid labour of women who sustained 19th century homes and workplaces. Drawing on themes from her writing and research, the discussion will look at how the restrictive laws and expectations placed on women in that era still echo in society today.

Come along for a relaxed and thought-provoking conversation, connect with others in the community, while reflecting on the resilience and contributions of women throughout history.

🎄Christmas and New Year closure dates for Alexandrina Council and our Visitor Information Centres, Signal Point Experience Centre and the South Coast Regional Arts Centre. 📅

Council's main offices, libraries and depots will be closed from 𝟭𝟮 𝗽𝗺 𝗪𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟰 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝟵 𝗮𝗺 𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟱 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲.

We will have an after-hours service in place for urgent community health and safety matters. Please call 8555 7000 to access this service during this time.

Our Visitor Information Centres at Strathalbyn and Goolwa, and the Signal Point Experience Centre and South Coast Regional Arts Centre will be closed:

These visitor attractions will be open from 10 am until 3 pm on the remaining days during the Christmas/New Year holiday period, through to Sunday, 4 January 2026.

Indulge in the recreation of nostalgic Christmas crafts. Bring back the timeless intent of handmade wrapping, tree adornments, festive garlands, gift tags, wreaths and gifts from the heart.

Congratulations to the Mayors' Short Story Challenge Winners for 2025! 🥇🥳

The Challenge is an initiative of Alexandrina Council, the District Council of Yankalilla and the City of Victor Harbor.

The short story competition encourages school-aged children from Reception to Year 10 to let their imaginations run wild and share stories through creative writing. ✍️💭

Alexandrina Council received the most entries to date with 544 entries from school and home school students across the region.

The winners were celebrated last week at the Strathalbyn Library on Thursday 11 September, with more than 200 people coming along to show their support.

👏🏽Well done to the winners, shortlisted entrants and all the creative young writers who participated in this year’s Challenge. 🎉
