Mary continues to fight on her road to recovery ❤️‍🩹

A team of veterinarians and results of diagnostic testing overnight have revealed the cause of Mary the Tasmanian Devil’s illness is inflammation of the brain, with a targeted treatment plan now being implemented to help her on the road to recovery.

While she is not out of the woods yet and remains in a stable, but critical condition, the veterinary team are encouraged by her progress including eating for the first time this morning.
Mary’s dedicated wildlife team remain by her side at the Small Animal Specialist Hospital and are providing 24/7 care and support, while she receives her treatment.

Overnight, Mary had an anesthetic procedure to undergo an MRI scan, and specialised vets can report she remains in a stable, but critical condition.

Mary’s dedicated wildlife team remain by her side 24/7 to provide care and support, while the vet team perform high end diagnostics to help inform a targeted treatment plan.

Update on Mary, the missing Tasmanian Devil.
We are asking the local community to monitor their security cameras for any movements, and if they do sight Mary to not approach or attempt to capture to avoid risk of injury.

We are continuing the search to find Mary, the two-year-old female Tasmanian Devil who performed an abnormally large leap to exit her quarantine exhibit early Tuesday morning.

Since identifying Mary had breached her exhibit space, our team have swiftly and methodically conducted extensive targeted searches with experienced Wildlife teams, sniffer dog, thermal imagery drones and equipment, and humane animal capture devices deployed around the park and surrounding bushland to locate her.

We ask members of the community to report any sightings to Wildcare on 07 5527 2444 and to not approach or attempt to capture to avoid risk of injury to Mary or themselves.

Following an extensive overnight search, including a dozen of our experienced Wildlife team on-ground being supported by a specialised drone operator with thermal imagery capabilities, Mary the Tasmanian Devil was unable to be located following her disappearance from her enclosure at Paradise Country on Tuesday morning. 
 
Our priority remains on relocating Mary to ensure her welfare, and we will continue to search the property and are investigating additional resources to assist finding her. 
 
Paradise Country is an accredited zoological facility, with Mary and her companion Mavka arriving as part of a wider conservation initiative for Tasmanian Devils. The welfare of all the animals in our care is our highest priority, and our habitats are specifically designed to ensure the safety and security of each species, with incidents of this nature extremely rare. 
 
We are continuing to work with relevant agencies but also ask members of the public in the Kopps Road area to report any sightings to Wildcare on 07 5527 2444 and to not approach or attempt to capture to avoid risk of injury to Mary or themselves.
