⚓Did you know you must be qualified to operate most marine radios?

Marine radio training ensures you can use your equipment safely and follow correct protocols, especially during emergencies.

There are five marine radio qualifications and endorsements to support safe operation. The one you need depends on what you operate, whether it’s a VHF marine radio or a vessel fitted with GMDSS satellite systems.

You also need the right qualifications and training to work on a domestic or international vessel.

Follow the link in the comments to find out how to get qualified.

The awards just keep coming for our crew at Marine Rescue Jacobs Well.
A huge congratulations to
Samara Ey Escobar on her nomination and win of the international women’s day award.

Samara commented
“To be nominated for an award at the QPS International Women’s Day Awards event was big - but to win one for my volunteering with Marine Rescue Queensland really has made my year! Couldn’t have done it without all my wonderful mentors who encouraged and guided me to this point. What an honour! 💐 🏆 “

We are all super proud of you Samara well done.

Last night at the General meeting, the very popular and constant fixture at the base Brett Campbell was presented his National Medal for 15 years service to our squadron. Pictured presenting Brett with his medal is unit Commander Shaun Quilty. Congratulations Brett on your recognition for a long and distinguished service. We were unable to calculate how much ice cream you would have consumed over that time . We know it would have been well deserved though.

We also snuck in a not so new recruit when Pat Reynolds (Slinky) was awarded his 3rd stripe section 24 skipper in training. Presented by Resource controller Paul Raven hot on the heels of recent recipient Alan Tosh who was presented last week by unit Commander Shaun Quilty. Also congratulations to David Bonici (Bonkers) on receiving his senior crew 2nd stripe unfortunately the paparazzi were unavailable at the time we will put up a pic soon.
