This photo is the remaining photo of several that were taken at a celebratory lunch for the completion of the School of Arts Hall extensions in 1986, the previous ones published were AccNr00782 and AccNr00783 . From left to right are Russell Atcheson (?), Lil Shipman, Gloria Hyatt, ? (grey hair). Sam Hyatt, Les Webb, Elizabeth Webb, Ashley Hyatt sitting on the bonnet of the car, ? (striped brown top) Jane Mitchell, ? (blue jeans/brown jumper), Adrian Webster, Norm ?, and Anthony Webster. The building extensions were supervised by Les Webb. As can be seen in the photo, there is still a bit of timber laying on the ground, where a building was being constructed, to the left of the picture, for the Heart Start operations to be based from. These three ladies, from L-R - Elizabeth Webb, Maree Field (nee Shipman), and Audrey Armstrong , were waiting patiently for the official ceremony to begin at the opening of the new Post Office. Marie, the daughter of Fred Shipman, stepped up to take on this role when her father wasn't about to attend. This event happened on the 11th October 2003. AccNr00684

The award winners of the woodchops held at the Glenreagh 125 Years A Village celebrations on 1st October 1983, pose with their trophies for the obligatory photo. The efforts and effects of the day of celebrations seem to have caught up with these three, L-R - Fred Shipman, Sam Hyatt (committee member), Terry Kennedy, as no smiles can be seen, or maybe they were keen to get on with enjoying the evening, as can be seen by others in the background. The bar, behind them on the right, was still operating and so was the barbeque as seen by a lady to the left of Fred. The man on the left, in the blue shirt, looks like Ted Cox. AccNr00569

This photo, from the Weller collection, was taken in early February 1965 and shows two young girls on their first day of school at Glenreagh Public School with their new ports and uniforms, proudly accompanied by an older sister. From left to right - Mary Dart, Anne Dart and Kim Weller, in the Weller backyard. The uniform was a navy blue dress and white shirt. When these girls went to school, it was a three term school year. Research into the history of the NSW school year has revealed. that from 1848 to 1928 government schools operated on a four-term year. However, in 1929 a two-term year was introduced, but proved so unpopular that in 1930 a three-term year was adopted, as it was when this picture was taken. It was in 1987 that the four-term year was reintroduced. AccNr02001

Here is another photo, courtesy of Mark Frauenfelder, from his grandmother Nethie Davis (nee Pont) and mother Lorraine Grace's (nee Davis) collection. It depicts the students of Glenreagh Public School at a possibly a sports day. The field that they are sitting in is not known but a road can be seen behind them, as indicated by the two fence lines. There are many unknown faces in here so please let us know who you recognise. Behind the boy on the left who is holding the flag, the three girls sitting directly behind him from left to right is Eileen Watson (dark curly hair), Dorothy McGregor (blonde hair) and Jean Brown (wearing a bangle on her left arm. Behind Jean to the left, is her sister, Shirley Green, and the boy on the left, behind Shirley is Greg McPherson. In the row that is seated behind Jean Brown, the second boy in that row is ? Ellem, with Basil Thompson seated behind him, then Lorraine Davis.
Of interest is that all the children appear to be wearing the same uniform, so it was a more formal occasion that a normal school day. It is not known if all the children in this photo are students of Glenreagh. Perhaps only the middle three rows, seated behind the boy that is kneeling with the flag laid along the ground in front of him, are children from Glenreagh School, and the children to the far left and on the right of this photo belong to other schools. Given that there is a gap between these groups and the boy on the right appears to also have a flag, this is possibly the case. If you can identify any other children or the ground, please comment below. While we don't have a date, it is estimated that this may be taken in the very early 1950s. AccNr01010

This is another of our Nana Glen photos that we don't have any information on. The lady here has similar features as the lady in AccNr01032. It may be the same person taken several years earlier or perhaps a relative. If it is the same lady, then the child may also be the same child, with the photos taken several years apart. The women in the photos appear to be wearing the same type of shoes. The pony also appears to have some similarities, with lighter coloured mane and forelock. However, this one appears to have a longer mane, a thinner tail and a podgier stomach much like that of a mare in foal. The photo is a little blurry which makes it hard to make a positive judgement call. If you recognise either this photo, or the previous one, please let us know. AccNr01036

The Glenreagh 125 years A Village celebrations wouldn't have been complete without a special cake to mark the occasion. A very similar picture, AccNr00469, has been previously published. This cake featured the stage coach bringing passengers to the town and had the words Glenreagh 1858 - 1983 on it. We don't have recorded who made this cake, nor who did the decorating of it. This cake was cut by Mrs Elizabeth Clarke (nee Simpson), seen here in the background, on 1st October 1983. If you can shed any more light on the details of this cake, we'd love to have this recorded. This is another photo of one of the axemen demonstrating sleeper cutting at the Glenreagh 125 Years a Village celebrations held at the Glenreagh Recreation grounds. A previous photo was of axeman Billy Boyd, so it is possible that this is the same man. Can you recognise any spectators? On the far left is Gwen Loy wearing the western shirt and jeans. On the far right sitting on the bucket of the machine, is Shane Shipman who is wearing white shorts, and to Shane's left, wearing red shorts, is Rick Weller. If you can recognise anyone else, please let us know. This event was held on 1st October 1983. AccNr00554

This photo, courtesy of Mark Frauenfelder, is one from the Nethie Davis/Lorraine Grace collections, and depicts a young Ross Shipman holding up his catch with his father, Alex Shipman. Margaret Shipman is the taller girl to the left of Alex. This photo was taken at Moonee Beach, where the Shipman and Weller families had their holidays camping on the foreshores. Note the fridge in the back of the tent, a kerosene model that was transported to the beach for their stays. The other children in the picture haven't been identified. This photo was taken in the late 1960s or very early 1970s. The second photo is the original. AccNr01009

This photo comes courtesy of Lynne Bone and is believed to have been taken in the early 1950s. It depicts in the back row, L-R: Vic Weller, Len Dart, Max Burkhardt, and Max Unwin; and front row, L-R: Joan Schulz (nee Ellem) and Joan Dart. This photo was taken at G1 - Railway Tennis Courts, which was on the southern side of the Glenreagh railway stationmaster's house, between the railway line and Sherwood Creek Road. If you can identify the unknown male, please let us know. The second photo is the original. AccNr03001
