What a way to end National Volunteer Week!! 8 brigades from the Derwent Group got together to traverse a little travelled area behind the Northern Suburbs in the foothills of Mount Wellington. We started off the morning at Collinsvale Station, half the group travelled the Mt Hull trail while the larger trucks took the zig zag track, meeting back up at the top of the hill to check out the TasGRN radio tower, once done taking in the spectacular views we made our way out onto Tolosa Fire trail ending up at our station for a BBQ lunch.

Thanks to Ben, Cameron and Andrew for organising today, and thanks to Collinsvale Fire Brigade - Tasmania, Molesworth Fire Brigade - Tasmania , Claremont Fire Brigade, Mt Nelson, Fern Tree, Taroona Volunteer Fire Brigade and Lenah Valley Fire Brigade for spending the day with us.

Congratulations to our Fourth Officer, Corey Suhr, who was recognised tonight at the Glenorchy City Council Community and Volunteer Awards for his contribution to the Glenorchy community through his volunteer service with our brigade.

Corey joined the brigade at just 10 years old and has continued to demonstrate a strong commitment to both the brigade and the wider community over many years.

We’re incredibly proud of Corey and grateful for everything he contributes. He is a valued member of the brigade and a positive role model to all our members, young and old.

Today we pause for ANZAC Day.

We remember those who have served and those still serving, those who never came home, and those who carried the weight long after.

Their courage wasn't loud. It was steady, enduring, and often unseen.

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

🚒 It’s been a busy start to the long weekend for our brigade, with crews out yesterday day assisting with a large incident in Derwent Park, and then farewelling one of our own, Dwayne, who heads off on deployment today to assist in firefighting efforts in WA.

With hot conditions forecast for Tuesday, please take extra care, plan ahead and keep fire safety front of mind.

🏆 2025 State Firefighter Championships Wrap-Up! 🏆

What a weekend! The Wellington Volunteer Fire Brigade hit the track at the 2025 State Firefighter Championships with our Division 1 and Division 2 Senior Teams – plus our awesome Junior/Cadet Team – and like always they did us proud!

Across two days of fierce competition (and plenty of fun), our crews picked up bronze, silver, and a couple of gold medals in various events – and even obliterated a State Record, beating the previous time by a massive six seconds! 🔥

Our combined efforts across the weekend also saw us take home 3rd place in the overall Senior / Junior Aggregate, our Div 2 Senior Team taking out 1st place in their division, and our Div 1 Team earning bronze overall.

Beyond the results, what really stands out every year is the camaraderie and sportsmanship shared between brigades. It’s always incredible to see volunteers from across the state come together, compete hard, cheer louder, and celebrate each other’s wins.

👏 A huge congratulations to all the teams who took part – and an even bigger thank-you to the Championships Committee for the enormous amount of work that goes into organising such a fantastic event every year.

🔌🔋Power Solutions Tasmania PST Thanks again to PST as our major sponsor for 2025 always willing to help us get everyone to this event every year we couldn’t do it without your help - hit up Kyle and the team at PST for all your power needs.

Congratulations to one of our Wellington members Dwayne Fitzpatrick, who participated in the Melbourne Stair Climb this morning raising money for the Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation, the 000 Foundation, and Lifeline. The goal is to climb 28 floors of the Crown Metropol in 25kg of firefighting gear Fitzy managed to do this is 6 minutes 48 seconds which is an amazing achievement. I think the after photo tells us how he felt about it 😉. Well done Fitzy and to all the other TFS participants 🚒

Today, we pause to remember and honour the courage, sacrifice and service of the men and women who have served—and continue to serve—our country in times of conflict, peacekeeping, and humanitarian efforts.

As members of the Wellington Volunteer Fire Brigade, we proudly acknowledge the legacy of mateship, dedication, and service that ANZAC Day represents. We stand in solidarity with our community in reflecting on the sacrifices made by so many for the freedoms we enjoy today.

Lest we forget. 🌺
