Today is the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia. As the Australian Labor Party and as our local branch, we stand against all forms of discrimination and proudly welcome diversity. Over the years, there have been many wins for the LGBTQIA+ community in Australia, but we still have more work to do. ALP Glen Waverley is committed to furthering these wins for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Today is International Workers Memorial Day. Today, we remember the lives of many workers who have been killed at work both over the past year and throughout history. The Industrial Manslaughter laws passed by the Andrews Labor government will see the lives of many workers saved, and will take action on negligent bosses. Alongside the union movement, Labor will continue to be the party to push for the protection and advancement of workers rights, so we don’t have to see such tragedies continuing to occur.

"Freedom is never given, It is won". When our troops stormed the beaches of Turkey, they were willing to lay down their lives for the freedom of the world, That is a debt that we can never take for granted 🇦🇺.

Lest We Forget

Throughout history, when our country bleeds the ALP rises to the occasion and stands up for all Australians, and today was no exception. While the Jobseeker package is not perfect, it is a step in the right direction. As the voice of local members, we wanted to thank our elected reps, both state and federal for fighting hard to shine a beacon of hope in such a bleak time 👏

Terrific to see the Branch supportive of real action on climate change at our October meeting. The Branch adopted LEAN's initiative for a framework to be adopted that provides a framework for accountable, active environment protection and management. We look forward to LEAN's further progress on this issue in its liaison with Federal Labor's Shadow Ministry team.

Very sad to inform you of the passing of our friend, comrade and fellow Branch member, Vaughan Duggan.

Vaughan had fought an inspirational battle against leukaemia over the past 2 years. Sadly, a bacterial infection weakened his immune system to the extent that he passed away on Monday.

Vaughan made a terrific contribution to the Party locally over many years, most recently serving for a period as Secretary of the Branch, providing comprehensive and detailed analysis of developments in state and federal politics, and being not only an active Branch member but significant contributor to local campaigning efforts.

We will miss his keen political insights and enduring partnership in Labor.

A funeral service for Vaughan will be held at 11am next Wednesday the 25th of October at the Boyd Chapel, Springvale Botanical Cemetery, 600 Princes Highway, Springvale.

Terrific turnout over the weekend to welcome Federal Opposition Leader Bill Shorten to our local area to talk to local Party members and supporters about Labor's plans for health, jobs and education, and putting people first... and very pleasing to see our Branch well represented...
