Water doesn't have an unlimited sick-leave balance.

Be water wise at work:
- Turn taps off properly (yes, all the way)
- Report leaks instead of "let it sort itself out"
- Use only what you need
- no bonus water just because it's not your bill.

Save water. Save money. Save us all from passive-aggressive signs in the kitchen.

Controlled burns will take place near the Lake Awoonga recreation areas this week, pending favourable weather.

On Wednesday June 10, a controlled burn will take place in the area located over the road from Ironbark Gully Recreation Area.

On Saturday June 13, a controlled burn will take place in the area from Lookout 1 to Lookout 2 along the water.

All publicly accessible areas will remain open, but smoke is likely to be visible in these areas.

People with asthma or other respiratory conditions may be affected by the smoke and should consider avoiding the area.

Something exciting is on the horizon for Castle Tower Lookout.

Rejuvenation works are set to begin in the coming weeks and months. While access to the views will be temporarily unavailable during the works, there'll still be uninterrupted access to the rest of Lake Awoonga's recreation facilities.

So, keep packing the picnic rug, exploring the trails and making the most of pristine Lake Awoonga.

And when the lookout reopens, it'll be ready for new memories, plenty of photos with family and friends and a few more "I dos".

Pipeline replacement works are well underway at French Street near the QAL roundabout. These works form part of GAWB’s ongoing commitment to maintaining and renewing important water infrastructure, to ensure dependable supply to our valued customers - now and into the future.

Thanks for your patience while works continue.

Awoonga Dam has 65.8% capacity as of 29 May 2026.

GAWB is investing in water security assets such as the Fitzroy to Gladstone Pipeline, to drought proof our region.

But while our water future is secure, we still need to protect our precious resources.

Every drop you use counts.

Another successful Barramundi production run done, with our last batch of fingerlings released into Lake Awoonga.

Production will kick off again when the weather warms.

But while the hatchery is now in maintenance mode, there's still plenty to experience at Aquaculture Gladstone, including the daily live fish feeding at 11am.

We are open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 3pm at Lookout One at Awoonga Dam.

A shout out to the team behind the scenes who help keep our recreation areas looking their best.

From mowing and maintenance through to caring for the land and making sure spaces stay safe, clean and enjoyable, their work often happens quietly in the background, but it never goes unnoticed.

We regularly hear from community members and visitors about how much they value these places and the care that goes into maintaining them.

If you're heading out to enjoy one of our recreation areas, you can lend a hand too. Take your rubbish with you, respect the environment and leave it how you found it.

Pristine spaces are something can all play a part in protecting.

Last month, Aquaculture Gladstone hosted work experience student, Jake during the Easter school holidays.

Jake said what he liked best about work experience with Aquaculture Gladstone was feeding the Barramundi and Mangrove Jack broodstock.

Our work experience program at Aquaculture Gladstone helps create pathways for local youngsters to explore careers, build practical skills and gain firsthand experience in this growing industry.

By investing in future talent today, GAWB is helping develop the workforce and capability our region will need for tomorrow.

Thanks for all your help Jake.

It's World Bee Day 🐝

Queensland is home to more than 1,500 species of native bees, including Blue‑banded Bees, Stingless Bees and Solitary Bees.

These tiny pollinators play a big role in maintaining the health of our bushland, helping to pollinate native plants such as wattles, tea trees and eucalypts.

This amazing shot captures a stingless bee at Riverston Bay, Lake Awoonga.

On World Bee Day, this is a great reminder of the biodiversity which thrives in and around our region.

Why not plan a visit to Lake Awoonga this weekend and see if you can spot some of these super insects yourself?
