The City of Swan bushfire brigades (including West and East Gidge) will be conducting a hazard reduction burn at 195 North East Road over the course of the next few days (Friday 15th May - Sunday 17th May). Burning will be done in sections, so expect the amount of smoke to go up and down during this time period.

There will be a significant number of fire appliances from City of Swan brigades, and others outside of Swan, so don't be alarmed if you see strange fire trucks around.

As always - if there is smoke on any of the local roads, or fire personnel working near roads please take extra care so that everyone can get home safely.

Tomorrow (Thursday 5th March) has been declared a Total Fire Ban for the City of Swan (24hrs). Please see the information below for permitted and not permitted activities during a Total Fire Ban.

When you want to mow the lawn but there's a Total Fire Ban (TFB) πŸ”₯

🚩 RED FLAG 🚩

🚩 Firing up a Weber, BBQ, smoker or pizza oven that burns solid or liquid fuel in an area that is not fully enclosed.
🚩 Mowing with equipment powered by an internal combustion engine.
🚩 Off-road driving – using 4WDs, quad bikes, motorcycles and other similar petrol or diesel vehicles over areas containing vegetation.
🚩 Hot works outdoors – including angle grinding, welding, soldering and metal work
🚩 Campfires, bonfires and any open-air fires.

Restrictions apply to the general public, while businesses and industries can proceed under the regulatory framework.

βœ… GREEN FLAG βœ…

βœ… Using gas (enclosed flame) or electric BBQs (no flame) with a five metre clearing around the BBQ at home or signed public BBQ area.
βœ… Power tools – as long as the power tool does not create a spark.
βœ… Electric and battery-operated lawn mowers can be used as long as they don't create a spark (avoid using on dry grass).
βœ… Harvesting is allowed, but only if the local government has not implemented a harvest Vehicle Movement Ban.
βœ… Generators in an area clear of vegetation.

Remember the red flags! Failing to follow the rules of a Total Fire Ban could land you a fine of up to $25,000, 12 months in jail, or both.

Thanks to our mates at Stoneville Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade.

This applies to the City of Swan as well. If we can access water easily, we have a much better chance at saving your property. Most bush fire appliances do not carry ladders, so often manholes are not accessible to us (they also take a lot more hose, which means we must get much closer to the tank). A simple fitting at the bottom will make it much easier for us.
