Museum of Geraldton The Museum of Geraldton celebrates the rich heritage of the land, sea and people of the Mid West.

Community guidelines: https://visit.museum.wa.gov.au/social-media-community-guidelines The Western Australian Museum was established in 1891 and has a long and fascinating history which reflects and documents the State’s rich and diverse natural and cultural heritage. Today the Western Australian Museum is preparing the New Museum for WA, comprises five public sites and a Collections and Research

facility, and houses millions of objects from rare fossils to the iconic racing yacht Australia II. The Museum also manages 200 shipwreck sites of the 1,500 known to be located off the WA coast and manages eight Aboriginal land reserves. Due to its location on the Western Australian Coral Coast and proximity to the beautiful Abrolhos Islands with their dark history of shipwrecks, the Town and now City of Greater Geraldton has had a museum in its midst since 1971. The Museum of Geraldton overlooks the Indian Ocean and celebrates the rich heritage of the land, sea and people of the Mid West Region. Discover ancient landforms, Yamaji history and culture, and the region's natural landscapes and marine environment. Find out how more recent European exploration and settlement has developed the Mid West including the agriculture, fishing, mining and science industries. From Great Depths: Witnessing the wrecks of Sydney II and Kormoran is a poignant exhibit exploring the history of both ships and the exact moment they engage in battle off the Western Australian coast. The exhibit includes a 3D film featuring the underwater footage captured during the 2015 survey expedition to the wreck sites, along with personal accounts and historic images of wartime service related to both crews.

🎶 Our WA Maritime Museum Choir has been learning Beds Are Burning for National Reconciliation Week.

Over the past four weeks, the choir has gathered each week to rehearse, with Carus Thompson guiding the group on guitar. After lots of hard work, and fun of course, they are ready to share their final recording!

Beds Are Burning by Midnight Oil was chosen by Reconciliation Australia for this year’s Voices for Reconciliation, calling on Australians to be 'All In' for justice and reconciliation, and for all Australians to know our history.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part. Your voices, and message, are beautiful!

Today marks the beginning of National Reconciliation Week (NRW).

NRW invites all Australians learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements while considering the part we each play in reconciliation.

This year’s theme, All In, asks for more than good intentions. It explores how reconciliation should not sit on the shoulders of First Nations people alone, and it should not be something we only think about for one week of the year. We need to consider how our actions impact others every single day.

That means listening, learning, acknowledging the wrongs of the past, recognising the ongoing impact of those wrongs, and supporting a future built on two-way respect, equality and understanding.

Being respectful and inclusive should feel simple, but it doesn't happen without effort. Likewise, reconciliation will not happen by itself, and it will not happen without all of us.
