🙌 We are over the moon to have been announced as a successful recipient of the 2026-27 Mid West Ports Community Grants Program!

The funding will support the development of the Geraldton Regional Essential Actions Trail (GREAT), a community walking trail sharing messages about preventing family and domestic violence before it starts.

Developed through the Community, Respect & Equality Initiative, the trail will launch during Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month next May and feature visual art displays in public spaces across Geraldton.

Each display will encourage people to reflect on the small actions we can all take at home, at work, at school and in the wider community to help build respect and equality.

A huge thank you to Mid West Ports Authority for supporting this project. We were honoured to attend today's grant announcement with Minister for Ports, Hon Stephen Dawson MLC, and celebrate alongside fellow CRE signatory Hon Sandra Carr MLC , members of the Mid West Ports team, and the many community groups whose projects were also successful this round.

What a fantastic and supportive community we are part of 🩵

It was an incredible turnout for the Wanarayimanha National Reconciliation Week Walk today 🫶

Hundreds of people gathered to walk together for reconciliation in our community, for our country, and especially for all First Nations people.

We couldn’t be prouder to be part of the deadly Justice & Community Network that brings this event together each year.

To the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people we walk alongside every day, especially our clients, staff, and community, we hold you in our hearts today.

Today remembers the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were forcibly removed from their families, communities, culture, and Country under past government policies.

May 26th, National Sorry Day, marks the anniversary of the Bringing Them Home report being tabled in Parliament in 1997, following a national inquiry into the forced removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.

For our wider community here on Yamatji Country, today is a time to listen, reflect, support healing, and continue truth-telling together.

This year’s theme, From Sorry to Action, reminds us that acknowledgement must be followed by meaningful action, as healing and intergenerational impacts are still very much present today.

🫶 It was so great talking with Ele and Rory about what they made and sold at the Kids’ Make & Bake Market, and hearing about their passions and the wonderful role models who have helped inspire their venture.

This line was absolutely magic: “I don’t know why I was proud, it just felt amazing.” What a beautiful reminder of the power of confidence, creativity, and giving things a go.

It was also wonderful hearing your thoughts about how both girls and boys can do whatever they’re interested in. Interests, passions, and talents don’t need to be gendered. Whether you’re a girl or a boy, you should feel free to explore what you love and be proud of who you are.

Kids really do say it best. Great job, kiddos!

🌈Today is International Day Against LGBTQIA+ Discrimination. For our rainbow community across the Mid West, we want you to know this clearly today and every day: you are valued, you belong, and you deserve to feel safe, seen and supported.

While this day recognises how far we have come since homosexuality was removed from the World Health Organization’s Classification of Diseases in 1990, it is also a reminder that many people still experience discrimination, exclusion and fear simply for being who they are.

At Desert Blue Connect, we are committed to creating spaces where people are treated with dignity, respect and kindness, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

We know we won’t always get everything right, but we are committed to listening, learning and continuing to grow so our services feel safer, more inclusive and more welcoming for our rainbow community.

To anyone who may need the reminder today, our doors are open, and you are always welcome here.
