This National Child Protection Week (6–12 September), we’re reminded that keeping children and young people safe is everyone’s responsibility.
This year’s theme, “Every Conversation Matters: Shifting Conversations to Action,” encourages us to look beyond awareness and think about how our conversations, choices and actions can help create safer environments for children and young people.
At Desert Blue Connect, child safety is something we all have a role in. It means listening to children and young people, taking concerns seriously, speaking up when something doesn’t feel right, and creating spaces where every child feels safe, heard and respected.
Because protecting children isn’t just about one conversation, it’s about what we do with those conversations.

Last week, we had the pleasure of attending the SHINE & Shimmer Supporters & Partners Lunch! ✨

As a community partner, we love being involved in both programs, delivering workshops, connecting with young people and, most importantly, getting to see young people grow in confidence and work towards achieving their goals along the way.

It was such a lovely afternoon listening to the panel discussions, hearing directly from young people and learning more about the incredible people and organisations who help make these programs possible.

Meet Sarinah, our Midwife at the Women's Wellness Centre. 💛

Sarinah supports new and expectant mums through pregnancy, early parenthood and beyond, by providing a safe, supportive and culturally respectful space for you and your baby.

The Looking After Mums Program (LAMP) supports new and expectant mums who are experiencing, or at risk of developing, mental health concerns during pregnancy and the first post-partum year.

📍 Home visit appointments are available, and women living rurally across the Midwest can access the service via phone consultation.

You can access LAMP by self-referral, or a referral can be made by a health professional.

“BELIEVE HER”: WARNING OVER TECHNOLOGY-FACILITATED DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

A regional women’s support service is warning that everyday technology, including mobile phones, social media accounts, GPS trackers and smart-home devices, is increasingly being used to monitor, frighten and control victim-survivors of domestic and family violence.

Desert Blue Connect chief executive Meegan Taylor said technology-facilitated abuse was not simply a digital privacy issue, but could form part of a wider pattern of coercive control.
