Natasha Colliver - Deputy Mayor - City of Greater Geraldton and I recently joined the Geraldton Regional Aboriginal Medical Service team to help promote Flip the V**e - a campaign supporting young people to quit va**ng and make healthier choices for themselves, their families and community.

The campaign is built around support, culture and honest conversations, without judgement or lectures. If you’re thinking about quitting, or supporting someone who is, help is available through the GRAMS Barndi Yarraly Tackling Indigenous Smoking team and Quitline on 13 78 48.

☕️ Coffee with a Councillor ☕️
This month Councillor Serena Giudice - City of Greater Geraldton and I are talking dogs, parks and what comes next for the Geraldton Recreation Ground trial 🐕

Council has extended the off-leash dog exercise trial at the Recreation Ground, giving the community more time to use the space and help inform what happens next.

Have a watch, and let us know how the trial is working for you and your four-legged family members.

Hundreds of new seedlings are taking root across Greater Geraldton thanks to some brilliant young community champions 🌱

Central Regional TAFE Certificate II Conservation students recently planted 400 seedlings at Separation Point, while local Scouts also rolled up their sleeves for a planting day at Town Beach.

Two different groups, two local spaces and one shared goal: helping restore and care for Greater Geraldton’s natural environment.

A big thank you to the students, Scouts, leaders, volunteers and City team involved. Every seedling contributes to the Million Trees Project and a greener city for future generations.

Have you planted any seedlings, trees or shrubs lately? Register them here 👇

Some of Greater Geraldton’s best ideas begin with a few committed people and a plan to make our community better 💡

The City’s 2026/27 Community Grant Funding Programs are now open, supporting community projects, events, sporting facilities and equipment, in-kind assistance and opportunities that need a quick response.

We’ve updated the guidelines to make them easier to understand and expanded who can apply. Individuals can now seek support through the Rapid Response Program, alongside community groups, clubs and not-for-profit organisations.

If you’ve got an idea you want to bring to life, speak with the City’s Grants Officers before applying. They can help point you towards the most suitable program.

Another busy month in the books! 👍

August has been full of great conversations, community events and projects that continue to move Geraldton forward. From catching up with local groups and businesses to seeing progress on important infrastructure, it's been a pleasure getting out and about across our community.

One of the best parts of being Mayor is hearing directly from the people who live, work and volunteer here. Your ideas, feedback and conversations help shape our city and keep us moving in the right direction.

What’s in the bag? 👀

A cup for your coffee, a loo roll and a pamphlet... Not quite the usual goodie bag 😂

I recently caught up with the Bowel Cancer Screening team while they were in town promoting bowel cancer awareness and the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program.

The contents might get a laugh, but the message matters. Australians aged 45 to 74 can access a free bowel screening test every two years, and when bowel cancer is found early, more than 90% of cases can be successfully treated.

If a kit lands in your letterbox, don’t put it off.

Mullewa is about to put on a show 🌼

Following welcome winter rain, this year’s wildflower season is shaping up to be one to remember.

Outback Bloom returns from Thursday 27 to Sunday 30 August, with guided wildflower walks, displays in the Mullewa Town Hall, a bush tucker workshop and a smartphone photography workshop. The Mullewa Agricultural Show is also on Saturday 29 August, making it a great weekend to head east.

While you’re there, call into the Mullewa Community Resource Centre for the latest bloom information, and make time for Helen Ansell’s Gallery and Suzie’s Aboriginal Art Studio.

Pack your camera, lace up your walking shoes and enjoy one of the most unique wildflower experiences in the world. Just remember to leave the flowers where you find them so everyone can enjoy the display 🌸

Have you spotted the newest addition to the Foreshore? 👀

We've recently added new accessible change rooms and secure lockers beside the Rubik's Cube Toilets, with a dedicated space that will soon house our beach wheelchair.

It's one of those projects that might not grab the headlines, but it will make a real difference for people wanting to enjoy our coastline.

A big congratulations to local artist Sally Ridge on the beautiful artwork, and well done to Jennie Haste, whose community advocacy helped get this project over the line.

Little improvements like this all add up to making Geraldton an even better place to live and visit.

Some of Geraldton's quiet achievers deserve a big thank you.

Our incredible Community Nursery volunteers have grown more than 23,000 native seedlings this year.

Over the coming weeks, thousands of those plants will find a new home in our bushland, coastal reserves, parks and gardens -helping keep Geraldton looking its best for generations to come.

Thank you to every volunteer who's rolled up their sleeves.
