Nominations for the 2026 Tasmanian Local Government Elections are now open!

Standing for council is a meaningful way to contribute to the wellbeing, growth, and future of your community. If you’ve decided to put your hand up, now is the time to prepare your nomination.

Nominations are open from 7–21 September 2026. Submitting early is encouraged to avoid any last-minute issues.

📣 We are proud to announce the launch of the third Kinimathatakinta/George Town Art Prize.

The Art Prize provides an opportunity to celebrate and showcase the exceptional talent and creativity of artists within our community, while recognising the vibrant and evolving arts and cultural landscape of the Kinimathatakinta/George Town municipality.

Artists are encouraged to draw inspiration from their surroundings and develop works that reflect their connection to the local environment, community and sense of place. We look forward to once again celebrating the diverse perspectives, skills and talents of our local artistic community.

2027 Creative Kinimathatakinta/George Town Contemporary - Exhibition Call Out

George Town Council invites artists living and working across lutruwita/Tasmania to apply for the 2027 Exhibition Program.

This paid exhibition opportunity supports artists to present new and innovative work, engage audiences through artist talks and public programs, and contribute to the cultural life of Kinimathatakinta/George Town.

We welcome applications from emerging, mid-career, and established artists
working in visual arts.

Road Hazard Notice – Old Bangor Tram Road

Council advises road users that a section of Old Bangor Tram Road near No. 384 is affected by potholes and other pavement surface defects, creating potential safety risks.

Temporary hazard signs and a reduced speed limit are currently in place. Council is investigating the extent and cause of the damage and will arrange repair works as soon as practicable.

Motorists are requested to reduce their speed, follow all warning signs and drive carefully through the affected section.

Council appreciates the road users patience and cooperation.

📣 Bellbuoy Beach Community Centre Concept Plan – Community Consultation

George Town Council is seeking feedback from the Bellbuoy Beach community on an initial concept for a new Community Centre.

The Bellbuoy Beach community identified the development of a community centre as a priority through Council’s Township Character Plan process. The concept now being presented is an opportunity to continue that conversation and seek community input on how a future facility could function, look and respond to the local setting.

How to get involved:

🟧 Come along to a Community drop-in session.
