This week is National Volunteer Week where we celebrate the effort and sacrifice volunteers around the state and the nation put in to keep their communities safe. And not just that but volunteers that make the country and their communities tick along. Could be the local op shop ladies to the Men’s Shed making toys for kids in hospital. There are so many ways volunteers give so much time and effort for their communities and this week, we celebrate them all.

Absolutely tragic that one of the Blaze Aid volunteers was involved in the fatal collision this morning in Bannockburn. For those unaware of what BlazeAid do, they assist farmers to rebuild their fences after a fire has been through. Our thoughts are with the BlazeAid crew at this difficult time.

Geelong City Tanker and Geelong BA Support are on scene with numerous FRV and CFA appliances at a huge mulch fire in Moolap. Crews may be on scene for some time.

Last nights training involved truck inventory and pressure testing all of our hose. With the use of the District 7 hose testing trailer, we got all of our hose tested in one go. The trailer is a great asset for the District.

🚒 Training Night with SES 🧯

Great to team up with our local SES volunteers for a hands-on extinguisher training session this week. Crews got stuck into the practical side of fire safety, learning how to confidently and safely operate extinguishers in real-world scenarios.

Strong skills, great teamwork, and even better collaboration between agencies 👏

Thanks to everyone who got involved it’s always a great result when we train together to keep our community safer.

It’s hard to believe but today marks the 16th anniversary of the official opening day of our station in McKillop St. Three fire Stations have now stood proudly on this site. Whilst we now share the facility with our FRV colleagues, it is still a day to be proud of the commitment that firefighters have responded from this part of Geelong to protect our community for well over 117 years. In 2010, a video was made to show you around the station and while there have been some additions and modifications, it gives you a quick look inside our station.
