The Geelong SES unit had the wonderful opportunity to do some team training on a Monday morning with the City of Greater Geelong crew

Great few hours for us all.

Thanks Amanda Rob and team.
And special thanks to the 8 members who gave up some time to learn, and work as a team in tree down situations.

WOW DAY or WEAR ORANGE WEDNESDAY

Today is Wear Orange Wednesday. It is a National Day of Recognition dedicated to thanking SES volunteers for their service to communities.

This year, WOW Day takes place during National Volunteer Week (18–24 May) – a week that recognises the contribution of volunteers from all walks of life. It’s a great moment to highlight the important work of the SES and its members' commitment.

With winter coming it’s time for our new members to work on safe working on heights.
Having a good number of members qualified already helps training our new team.

Big few months of storm and rescue training ahead for the Geelong team.

A number of months ago, we set an ambitious program to recruit new members for our unit and the Geelong Community. To increase our capability not just for our local area but for SES more broadly. With the help of the SES SWB region team and our amazing Unit Management team ( Lou, Rory, Skye, Graham and Marion ) we have now 28 members, with the addition of 11 amazing new members. We wanted people who live close, mix of ages, experience and day-night capability. As a management team, we could not have dreamed of such a wonderful group of new members. All now with pagers and ready to go.

Be sure to say hi to the unit members when you see them out and about.

Finally, please all take care of yourselves and family over Easter, hope we do not need to see you.

⏰⌚🕰 Two more sleeps to go before Daylight Saving comes to an end, and we get an extra hour of sleep!! So on Saturday night, don't forget to set your clocks timers and watches back an hour before going to bed.😴

🔺️ But there's more, time too, to change your smoke detector batteries.

If you’re out on the roads this Easter long weekend, make sure you’re well rested before getting behind the wheel. Take regular breaks from driving to avoid fatigue related incidents.

Geelong SES had the pleasure of hosting Mr Greg Johnson, of Energy Safe Victoria, for a wonderful and informative night of learning around power, solar and safety for emergency services when carrying our rescue work. SES Corio Unit, SES Bellarine Unit, our own members and a host of our newest members were informed, educated and left the session with so much learning on the risks and how to manage them for ourselves and our community. Great night for the SES Barwon South West Region.

🚨Tonight our Rescue Boat crew carried out a successful rescue on the Barwon River.

Last time we mentioned our boat crew they were doing some training over the weekend on the Barwon River. Tonight all those hours of training paid off.
