Men’s Health Week is a reminder to check in on the small things that help us stay well – physically, mentally and socially – and to encourage conversations about health before things become harder to manage. 💙
Conor is a gym instructor at Bellarine Aquatic & Sports Centre(BASC) where supporting the health and wellbeing of our community is all part of the job.
Here are his three tips to inspire everyone to put their health first:
🌱 Start right where you are
You don’t need to run a marathon or sign up for a gym on day one. A walk around your neighbourhood, along the waterfront or through one of our region’s many parks is a great place to start. Small, consistent steps are often the easiest habits to stick with.
🎯 A goal and a game plan
Having a clear goal can make it easier to stay motivated. Whether it’s walking three times a week, improving your fitness or simply having more energy for everyday life, a plan gives you something to work towards. Our network of footpaths, trails and recreation spaces makes it easier to build activity into your routine.
👯 Strength in numbers
Staying active is often easier when you’re not doing it alone. Exercising with friends, joining a group fitness class or joining of a gym can help keep you accountable and connected. The social side of being active can be just as important for your wellbeing as the physical benefits.
Men in our region experience higher rates of preventable health issues than women, which is why events like Men’s Health Week matter – helping encourage earlier conversations and small steps that support long-term wellbeing.
Across Greater Geelong, there are places, programs and people to help you get moving and stay connected.
