An absolute ripper picture from Frank. It wasn’t very often you saw a loco working the Geelong/East side line within the works, let alone a B class. Looks like there’s a shunter hanging off the side of it as well. I doubt that would pass OHS guidelines these days! Frank’s words -

B65 has just passed the Thompson’s Rd level crossing about half a kilometre from the North Geelong yard.

Here are Frank’s words -

B65 on a special trial block cement train from Fyansford, near North Geelong, 25 Feb. 1989.

* I may be wrong on this but from my research, typically the Cement Works trains were taken to the North Geelong yard where they were split into various lots to then be delivered around the state. This is normally why branch line loco’s were used from the Works to the yard. In the late 80’s, a trial was put in place to run a block train which is where the train in its entirety runs to a destination. In this case, Arden St. This saw the need for mainline loco’s to be used which is what we see in Frank’s brilliant photo.

A brilliant photo from Chris with X31 in blue and gold. On the main inbound line into the works, it wasn’t often you would see the loco on this end of the train as it is facing North Geelong. It could be possible that the the train was backing in though. Here is Chris’ words

I'd forgotten all about this until l refound it amongst some other slides. Class leader X31 at Fyansford at 14:09 7/7/87

Y137 shunting cement wagons at Fyansford. 02Dec92

Correct me if you think I’m wrong, but it looks like Y137 has taken the empty wagons it is now passing into the west sidings within the Cement Works fenced rail yards. With shunters on the steps and at the doorway, Y137 looks to now be heading back out across McCurdy Rd to the holding yard where I would think it will hook up to the full wagons. From there, it will then be a slow meander back to North Geelong.

B65 is at Nth Geelong as it heads off to Fyansford

Remarkably this piece of track still exists but that is for about it for rail on this line except the track imbedded in the concrete at the cement works itself. It was used only a year or so ago as a scrapping line.

Frank would have to have one of the most impressive collections of railway photos you could see 👏👏👏

Y166 and a B class are up the hill at sunrise to bring a rake of full wagons back to North Geelong yard. I’d assume this shot was taken around the late 80’s, very early 90’s.
