Huge day in Melbourne today for Kirsten and Grace, our President and Vice President, for the Victorian Toy Libraries Training Day.

SO many great ideas, passionate people and give aways!

Huge thank you to for putting in such a great day and to for showing us how you run things in your brand new space!

Have you ever attended a borrowing session and wished for more hands to carry toys, navigate prams, doors or roaming children? Fear not! GWTL now has a brand new wagon to assist you with loading up the car. Just reach out to one of our volunteers and we will gladly assist you or provide the trolley for you to use. We have also set up 3 barcode scanners which will hopefully make the borrowing and returning process a little quicker! Tomorrow will be our first time trialling the scanners in the library so please be patient with us if we need to revert back to our original process. Our President Kirsten will be coordinating tomorrow’s session and would gladly welcome the opportunity to have a chat about all things merger, toy wish lists or any feedback about the changes we have been making lately. Hope to see many of you tomorrow! 🙂

The Geelong West Toy Library committee members have completed the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower course.
You will find the trained volunteers wearing the lanyard that our Vice President Grace is wearing in this post.
We also have lanyards available for family members coming in to our borrowing sessions to pop on if they would like extra support during their visit.

Our toy library have also recently obtained a grant from to improve our resources and toy range to support our members living with disability or developmental delay.

Keep and eye on our socials and in the library in the coming month to see what amazing new items will be available for borrowing!
*and a special shout out to our wonderful members who are Paediatric OT specialists and have helped us prepare our purchase list!

Can you spare two hours tomorrow and help with our borrowing session? Due to some last minute cancellations, we are down a couple of volunteers and would really appreciate the help! Don’t worry if it’s been a while, our coordinator Jade can give you a refresher! 😀

Helping to keep toys out of landfill 🌏

Have you been wondering what happens to the toys we have recently been retiring from the toy library?

Their journey isn't over just yet! Any of our toys which were broken, worn or missing too many pieces were placed into the 'Toys for Joy' boxes at Big W and given another life.

The toys are sent to TerraCycle and their partners, who break them down into raw materials to make new products, such as an aggregate for building materials or yarn for carpets.

One of the main missions of toy libraries is helping to keep as many toys out of landfill as possible! If you would like to participate in this great program, click the link below for more information.

Yoto mini players are here and we suspect they will be popular!! From this weekend onwards, you will be able to borrow our orange or blue yotos. Each player comes with 8 pre-loaded cards with lots of favourite songs and stories! A $10 bond is required and will be refunded upon return. These won’t be on the shelves so please speak to a volunteer to arrange borrowing. 🎵📚

A mammoth effort today for our Working Bee! A number of toys were retired and over 30 new toys were added to our collection! As you can see, the shelves have had a serious glow up which will hopefully mean a calmer borrowing experience and finding some gems that may have previously been hidden. Let us know what you think 🧸🥰
