For 15 years in his retirement, Aubrey Kaesler quietly dedicated his time and expertise to one of Gawler’s most recognisable landmarks – the Gawler Clock Tower.

Through careful restoration, regulation and ongoing maintenance, Aubrey helped ensure the clock continued to keep time and remain a proud feature of our town centre. His commitment reflects something special about Gawler, people who care deeply about preserving the places and stories that make our community unique.

The Clock Tower is more than a timepiece. It’s part of Gawler’s history and identity, a landmark that generations of residents and visitors have looked to as they move through daily life, gather in the town centre and celebrate moments together.

Stories like Aubrey’s remind us that heritage doesn’t preserve itself. It’s cared for by passionate people whose contributions often happen quietly behind the scenes.
Thank you, Aubrey, for helping keep Gawler’s history alive and ensuring future generations can continue to enjoy this special part of our town.

Keep an eye out for the full video featuring Aubrey and his story behind the Gawler Clock Tower, coming soon.

*UPDATE!*

We didn’t envisage any delays in finalising this job, but shortly after this post went out, we have unfortunately been notified that the concrete honing will be delayed due contractor illness.

This has caused a domino effect with the subsequent bollard and signage installation, meaning the work won't be completed as programmed for Friday 18 June 2026. Unfortunately, this is out of Councils control.

We are working to make this a priority to have the works completed next week.

-

Weather permitting, the disability carpark space outside Terry White Pharmacy should be complete this Friday, 19 June. Concrete honing will occur tonight, and final signage and bollards will be installed this Friday.

These works have been undertaken consistent with the 5-week program the contractor provided. We are looking forward to having the space open.

🚧 Roadworks Across the Town of Gawler 🚧

Road and infrastructure works are continuing across Gawler over June–July to improve our streets, footpaths and community infrastructure.

Works are underway at various locations including Twelfth Street, Angle Vale Road, Clark Road, Lyndoch Road/Murray Street, Barossa Valley Way, Mullamar Way and other Council streets.

Please allow extra travel time and take care when travelling through work zones.

⚠️ Roadwork zones are active work sites. Slow down, follow signage and temporary traffic conditions, and help keep our crews, contractors and community safe.

Please note: while some works are being delivered by the Town of Gawler, a number of major road projects across Gawler are managed by the State Government on roads under their responsibility.

Thank you for your patience while these important improvements are completed.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 💜

Today, on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, we stand together to raise awareness of elder abuse and promote the rights, dignity and wellbeing of older people in our community.

Elder abuse can take many forms, including financial, emotional, physical and social abuse. By learning to recognise the signs and knowing where to seek help, we can all play a role in protecting older people and ensuring they feel safe, valued and respected.
